One servant led us in front, while two elf guards followed behind. The security had doubled since yesterday. A bad sign. Or perhaps... just a show of power.
"If this is a trap," Ezric whispered beside me, "I'll make sure we get out safely."
"If this is a trap," I whispered back, "I'll make sure someone gets buried with us."
Lucen said nothing, but he walked behind me, and that alone told me he was ready to cut down anyone who tried to touch me.
When we reached the large throne hall doors, the servant gave a slight bow and gestured for us to enter. I stepped in first.
The hall was more crowded than yesterday. Now the king, the crown prince, three main advisors, and an elven woman I hadn't seen before were present. She wore a dark blue outfit and a silver sun-shaped ornament on her chest. Her demeanor was graceful, but her gaze scanned us like a freshly drawn weapon.
"We appreciate your return," said the king in a deep voice.
