POV: Rowan Kingsley
The blade missed my throat by an inch. I twisted away, feeling it slice through the air where I'd been standing. Elias snarled, his eyes burning red as he lunged at me again.
"I should kill you where you stand," he growled. "You've been spying on us for weeks!"
I dodged his attack and raised my hands. "If I wanted to hurt any of you, I would have done it already."
"Elias, stop!" Amara's voice cut through the stress like a knife. She stepped between us, her blue flames dancing around her hands. "Let him talk."
Elias backed away, but I could see he was ready to charge if I made one wrong move. Smart man. But I wasn't here to fight.
"You have one minute to explain why I shouldn't rip your throat out," Elias said.
I looked at Amara, at the power radiating from her. So much like her mother. "I knew Seraphina," I said simply. "Your mother."
The fires around Amara's hands grew brighter. "My mother died when I was three."
