When Jihoon awoke that morning, the difference was immediate. His body no longer ached the way it had the night before. No pounding in his skull and no chills riding down his spine.
There was a bit of fatigue tugging at his limbs, but the fever had likely passed. The light that seeped in through the curtain no longer hurt his eyes; instead, it welcomed him back to the day.
The bedding on the floor had already been cleared by the time he sat up. The room looked tidier, almost as if the night had been reset. From the open doorway, he could hear the low babble of a cartoon playing in the background and the occasional clatter of plastic toys.
The scent of warm food drifted in from the kitchen, and when Jihoon stepped out, he found breakfast already laid out on the table.
He quickly brushed his teeth, rinsing the stale taste of sleep from his mouth, and joined the others at the table. The muffled rustle of wrappers and the scent of toasted bread greeted him.
