Richard sat frozen, the phone still pressed to his ear as she moved closer.
Damn! He didn't want her to meet him this way. How would she react if she misinterpretes his presence as him spying on her?
'No. I can't let that happen. I have to do something. ASAP.'
Richard's heart thudded against his ribs as he watched Shantel draw closer, the glow from her phone lighting up her features in soft, golden hues.
She stood just a few feet from him now—so close that if she turned slightly to her left, she would see him tucked in the booth half-swallowed by shadows.
The call was still on, her voice coming through the receiver pressed against his ear.
"Richard?" she said again, puzzled now. "Are you still there?"
Just when he thought of ducking under the table, she stopped just beside the tall plant that divided the dining area from the hallway leading to the lobby.
