Thick silence fell across the hall. Even Davion, who had deliberately ignored the gazes around him to focus entirely on Edith, paused for a moment.
The other guests were equally stunned by what had just happened. They stared, murmuring among themselves, each whispering to the person beside them.
"Isn't that lady Briar?"
"It is…"
"Why would she do such a thing?"
"Maybe being the king's fiancée has given her the nerve to speak so rudely."
"She actually confronted him…"
"How desperate can one be to he so foolish?"
Though Edith and Davion could hear the whispers, they showed no reaction. Edith could guess at what the woman must be feeling, but she didn't really sympathize. But something inside of her shifted when she heard that the woman was the king's fiancée.
For a moment, Edith's heart stopped, and her breath caught in her throat. Her expression almost gave her away, but she quickly composed herself and kept watching him, curious to see his next move.
