Chapter 37
Mark yanked off his tie harshly before slumping into one of his office chairs. His hands kept shaking—he had never felt so insignificant. So useless. The hate he felt ran deep in his bones.
The board had laughed behind his back earlier that day. Investors were pulling out. Every report he read now mentioned her—Skylar. His so-called "little sister" who was never supposed to amount to anything. And yet, here he was, defeated.
The only light in the dim room came from the streetlights outside, making Mark's silver eyes glow faintly. He kept tapping his finger on the table while swirling in his chair, trying to clear his mind.
Then the door creaked open slowly, and light spilled into the room, making Mark squint. He glared at the source of the inconvenience. It was Secretary Kim peeking through the door.
She was shocked to see Mark at this hour. It's clearly 4 a.m.—what the hell is he doing here? she thought, shaking her head.
