"What… what did you just say?" she whispered, her blood turning cold.
Kieran didn't look at her. He skimmed his fingers across the surface of the stream, his voice calm
"I knew something was off. Rowan Vale was twelve when he died in that fire with Alpha Vale, but you…" He turned his head slowly, locking eyes with her. "You're not him. You're older. Your hair color is different. Let's say you dyer it. Your scent is masked . Your instincts are different. And Rowan didn't have your eyes."
Raine scrambled back a step, water sloshing onto her legs. Her chest rose and fell in quick, panicked breaths.
"So what are you saying?" she forced out, trying to keep her voice steady. "That I'm an imposter? Alpha! "
He stood up, his towering frame casting a long shadow over her.
"I'm saying I don't know who you are… but you're not Rowan. And you're definitely not the Alpha heir everyone thinks you are."
