Chapter 16 - I have to kill you

Devastated that she was thrown out just when things were getting excited, Raine walked sluggishly down the heals to her dormetory.

She has reached orgasm a few number of times so the pain had subsided but no totally disappeared.

Getting to her dormitory, she tiptoed inside and once in her room, she almost layed down on her bed only to bump into a figure,

Alerted, she sprang up and flicked on the light.

"Oh god! You scared the shit out of me, dick head!"

"I waited for you all night. " Killian said sitting in her bed with the material she had used to bind her chest in his hands.

"Why would you wait for me do we know each other?" Raine stammered. She has been busted.

"Rowan"

"Uhh... I'm not Rowan. People say we look alike and I understand that you mistake me for him. He's my cousin by the ..."

"Rowan Vale!" Killian's voice cracked like a whip through the heavy silence of the room, shattering her flimsy excuse.

Raine flinched as if struck, her breath catching in her throat. there was no flicker of doubt in his eyes, only cold, unrelenting certainty. Her carefully constructed lie was crumbling.

"Stop lying to me," he growled, tossing the worn fabric onto the bed between them like an accusation. "You think I wouldn't recognize the person who's been at my side for months? You think a strip of cloth could fool me forever? You are a woman, Rowan. I've known that but had my doubt. No man could be this ridiculously cute. "

Her pulse roared in her ears. She should lie again. She should run. But his gaze pinned her down harder than any rope or blade ever could.

"Yes, and the fact that you know means you gonna be the first victim. You can't live with my secret asshole I have to kill you" she whispered finally, her voice raw and trembling.

"Kill me? Try if you can. Oh goodness I almost thought I was gay this past few weeks"

"What do you mean?" Raine asked.

"Nothing... I'm just really relieved. Now before you slit my throat, why are you doing this? Do you know the implications of being caught? I've heard about male disguising as females just to stay in their dormetory to satisfy their pervertious mind. But a female disguising as male? It's unheard of"

"If they knew I was a woman, they would have never let me live. I... I didn't have a choice, Killian."

For a long moment, he said nothing. The crackling fire in the hearth threw shadows across his face, making him look more dangerous.

"You had a choice," he said lowly, eyes narrowing. "You chose to lie to every single one in this academy, deceive me your roommate and ... Are you a pervert?"

Killian's sudden harsh question sliced through the tension like a blade, sharp and unexpected. Raine blinked, momentarily stunned by the shift in his tone.

"A pervert?" she echoed, incredulous. "What kind of question is that?"

He leaned forward, eyes locked onto hers, intense and unyielding. "Because only a pervert would be so invested in the slightest details of a man's body. Someone who crosses lines, invades privacy. Besides, a few hours ago you were going to force yourself on me but it was a good choice you didn't. I would have killed you instantly because of the gender i thought you were"

"I thought as much. "

"I don't mind now, before you kill me!"

"No thank you, get out of my bed, I need to rest"

"Why? Won't you kill me anymore?" Killian mocked .

Raine knew there was no ideal way she would ever even harm Killian. He was only in the same low class dormitory with her because he didn't reveal his powers during the entrance trial exams. He only killed his way through to final.

Raine's cheeks flushed, partly from anger that he could think that " If you knew the truth, maybe you'd understand why I had to hide. Not because I wanted to fool you...or anyone but because my life depended on it."

His jaw clenched,

Then, softer, he said, "Then what is the truth, what's your actual name?"

"Rowan Vale" she said

Killian's voice dropped to a low growl, eyes burning with frustration hurt, "You still lying. I tried to be nice. Don't blame me if I'm done playing along."

Raine swallowed hard, her hands trembling as they clenched into fists at her sides. The walls she'd built around herself were cracking fast, and she didn't know if she was ready to fall apart completely.

"You are going to be dead anyways. My name is Raine," she whispered finally giving in. killian seems to be the type that would never rest until he got what he wanted. "I'm not Rowan Vale. I took his place because… because I had no other choice. If they found out who I really was—"

"Then what?" Killian interrupted, stepping closer until the space between them felt like a thin line. "They'd kill you? Or worse? Who you really are ? You can't be a moon goddess. "

"Moon goddess? Am I really that pretty? I'm glad that she compensated for all my lack with my look"

Killian didn't laugh. He stared at her with an unreadable expression, the weight of everything pressing down between them.

"Don't do that," he said quietly.

"Do what?" Raine snapped, suddenly defensive.

"Pretending like this is a joke," Killian replied, voice low but sharp. "You just told me your real name. You just admitted you stole someone's identity. And now you're throwing sarcasm around like it'll protect you."

Her mouth opened, then shut. She'd been using her wit as a shield for so long, she didn't know how to stop. Especially not now, when she felt like she was standing at the edge of a cliff.

"I'm not trying to—" she began, but he cut her off.

"Why choose his identity, Raine? What happened to Rowan Vale? I need to know! "

She froze. Her fingers curled tighter around the edge of her bedframe.
