Whispers, mutters, and a few nervous laughs filled the air as the students packed up their things. The fear hadn't completely disappeared—it had just changed into worried chatter.
Kyoji, however, turned to Frederick, who had been unusually quiet beside him.
"You've been really quiet," Kyoji said, raising an eyebrow. "That's not like you."
Frederick gave him a flat look.
"What, you calling me a chatterbox now?" he asked, sounding slightly annoyed.
"Pretty much. You always have something to complain about," Kyoji replied with a shrug.
Frederick stared at him for a second like he wanted to argue, but then just sighed and rolled his eyes.
"Please. That class was boring. I almost fell asleep halfway through," he said, letting out a loud yawn.
Kyoji blinked.
"So you're saying a human-eating tree wasn't enough to catch your interest? You didn't find that terrifying—or at least a little curious?" he asked, raising a brow.
Frederick shrugged at the question.
