Chapter 329: Settling in Tomoeda Town
Early the next morning, George and Li Xiaolang boarded a plane to Tokyo.
On the plane, Li Xiaolang looked at George beside him and said with a firm tone:
"Don't worry, Ancestor. This time, I will definitely collect all the Clow Cards on behalf of the Li family. I won't bring shame to our family!"
"Very good, very spirited. But you don't have to worry too much about it—if you can collect them, great. If not, that's fine too.
Xiaolang, you're the most talented child our Li family has seen in years. Even without the Clow Cards, you can become the greatest magician in the future on your own, and lead the family to glory!"
George patted Li Xiaolang on the shoulder, his face showing little concern.
The Clow Cards belong to Sakura—that was something Clow Reed had decided long ago. No matter how hard Xiaolang tried, it wouldn't change that.
But it didn't matter. In the end, Xiaolang would marry Sakura. Sakura would become the daughter-in-law of the Li family—the future wife of the family head. The Clow Cards would naturally belong to the Li family.
That was even better. Not only would they obtain the Clow Cards, but also Sakura, who inherited Clow Reed's magical power. It was killing two birds with one stone.
So George didn't really care whether Xiaolang collected the Clow Cards or not. The real task was to win over the little wife as soon as possible.
Since his identity in this world was the Li family's ancestor, of course he had to think for the family's future. He hoped the Li family would grow and prosper.
"But Mother said that I must find a way to get all the Clow Cards on this trip to Tokyo."
A hint of hesitation flashed in Li Xiaolang's eyes, but then he declared resolutely:
"Ancestor, I know you're trying to comfort me. But no matter how hard it gets, I won't give up!"
George smiled:
"There are things in life where doing your best is enough."
He didn't say more. Right now, Li Xiaolang's mind was filled with the goal of collecting the Clow Cards. But once he met Sakura, his thoughts would naturally change without anyone needing to say anything.
So he didn't have to worry much—just let things take their course.
Before that, what he needed to do was fully comprehend and master all the Li family's Taoist arts stored in Li Xuan's memory.
Clow Reed's Clow Cards incorporated much knowledge from Eastern magical systems. If one wanted to truly decipher all the magic principles behind the Clow Cards, the best starting point was the Li family's Taoist methods.
Once he fully mastered the Li family's Taoist techniques, he'd naturally be able to understand the Clow Cards as well.
Otherwise, even if he obtained the Clow Cards, he wouldn't know how to begin using them. Should he just turn them into pretty girls and then give them physical check-ups?
Four hours later, the plane landed in Tokyo. Just outside the airport, the local head of the Li family's company came to pick them up.
Though the Li family was secretly the top Taoist family in Huaguo, on the surface they were a sizeable multinational corporation, with branches across the globe.
In fact, most of the powerful Taoist or magical families had their own family-run enterprises in the secular world. These businesses served the family, with management handled by members who lacked the talent for cultivation.
For these families, making money through business was extremely easy.
Any moderately skilled family member could casually use their magical abilities to help and earn loads of money.
Let alone these major families—even individual magicians never lacked money if they desired it.
Magicians were unlike Marvel's superpowered individuals, who usually had only one ability. If that ability wasn't useful for making money, then aside from turning to crime, they were no different from ordinary people.
But magicians were different. They had complete cultivation systems, studied various magical arts, and could easily earn wealth.
Take just the basics—divination, fortune telling, wealth prediction, and feng shui. When used well, these alone were enough.
Don't be fooled by how poor wizards are in the world of Harry Potter—that's because of the International Statute of Secrecy, which forbids them from engaging in muggle society to gain wealth.
Otherwise, even the weakest wizard could live splendidly in the muggle world.
With just the basic Repairing Charm that first-year students learn, one could become the king of the junkyard business and easily hit financial goals.
An hour later, George and Li Xiaolang arrived at Tomoeda Town.
Though Tomoeda was just a town, its proximity to Tokyo made it fairly large, and its development was quite good. It even had its own aquarium.
It was now early June, the beginning of summer, and the weather was not yet very hot.
"Ancestor, this is your residence in this town. All the furniture and appliances have been updated to the latest models."
Li Qingshan, the company head in Tokyo, parked the car in front of a villa and gave George and Xiaolang a brief tour, explaining the general situation of the town. He finally said:
"Xiaolang will be attending Tomoeda Elementary School. I've already completed the procedures. Tomorrow, Ancestor, you can just take him there."
"Good, I understand. Thank you for your efforts, Qingshan."
George nodded gently.
Li Qingshan immediately said respectfully:
"You're too kind, Ancestor. At your age, you must take good care of your health. If anything comes up, contact me right away."
As a collateral member, he had been tested at birth and found to lack the aptitude for cultivation. So he had studied diligently and later managed family business affairs. He'd been stationed in Tokyo for years and was unaware of the recent events within the family.
He only knew that the kindly old ancestor who'd been around during his childhood had passed away, and he'd been saddened by it. He hadn't expected that the ancestor would return to life and even come to Tokyo with Xiaolang.
Still, he thought—even if the ancestor had come back to life, he was still ninety years old and needed to take extra care of his health.
But after saying that, something felt off.
Looking closely at the ancestor—tall, upright, with a smooth, wrinkle-free face, thick white hair, and hands that carried heavy luggage without the slightest tremble or strain.
Then he looked at himself—bulging beer belly, balding head, and panting heavily just from walking around the villa once.
He suddenly realized that he might be the one who needed to take better care of his health.
"Qingshan, even when doing business outside, you need to exercise more. Though you lack cultivation aptitude, you can still practice the family's martial arts—it's good for your health."
George smiled and pointed at Li Qingshan's head.
"Hair Growth!"
Li Qingshan's thinning hair immediately became thick and full.
"Qingshan understands. Thank you, Ancestor!"
"Ancestor, you're amazing! You even know magic like this?"
Li Xiaolang, watching nearby, widened his eyes. He really hadn't seen such a hair-growing spell in the family's Taoist texts.
After Li Qingshan left, George and Li Xiaolang officially moved into the villa.
That night, unable to wait any longer, Li Xiaolang put on his Taoist robes, picked up the special compass left to the Li family by Clow Reed, and began chanting incantations to search for the Clow Cards.
"By decree of the Jade Emperor, divine ink reaches the four directions—metal, wood, water, fire, earth—thunder and wind, thunder and lightning, heed this command, stir swiftly like thunderbolt and flash—hasten as the law commands!"
