Kieran's POV
The beast clawed at my insides, trying to get out. I dug my fingers into the dirt, trying to stay human. The fake Blood Moon had faded, but I could feel the real one coming. It was still days away, but my curse knew it. My wolf knew it.
"Not yet," I growled to myself. "Not here."
I looked back at our camp. Sienna slept near the fire, her red hair glowing like embers. Even in sleep, she looked worried. I wanted to protect her, but how could I when I might be the biggest danger?
Something was wrong. Ronan and Zeke were lost. I sniffed the air and caught their scents going north. Why would they leave without telling anyone?
A branch snapped behind me. I spun around, claws extending before I could stop them.
"Easy, wolf." Ronan stepped into the moonlight, alone. "It's just me."
"Where's Zeke?" I asked, causing my claws to retract.
Ronan's face darkened. "Gone. He spotted Syndicate hunters heading our way. Decided to lead them off."
