Time passed quickly, and Akio had flawlessly handled all the matters at hand. Looking at the now-empty office, he stretched lazily. It was already noon.
Just as Akio was about to buy some food and return to the Hiiragi residence, hurried footsteps echoed from outside, accompanied by an arrogant voice.
"Listen, Hiiragi Chisato! Have you thought about what I told you? Resign already! How dare a woman think she can manage the Kanjou Commission? Who gave you the guts?"
"If you know what's good for you, write to the Shogun and hand over the position of the Kanjou Commissioner to the Taniguchi family. Otherwise—"
The office door was kicked open, and a young man swaggered in. But before he could finish his sentence, he realized that the person sitting in the chair wasn't Chisato.
He had seen this person's photo somewhere before… Could it be the new god? Akio!
The young man's face instantly turned pale.
"Otherwise what? Go on, finish your sentence," Akio asked with a hint of amusement.
"N-nothing…" the young man forced a smile and tried to bolt out the door.
But the moment he turned around, a Subspace Lance pierced through his legs, causing him to scream in agony.
"How noisy," Akio waved his hand, and the young man's head spun 360 degrees. The scream abruptly stopped, and his body crumpled to the ground, clearly dead.
"Lord Akio! What happened?" A Kanjou Commission samurai, who had been patrolling nearby, rushed in upon hearing the scream.
When he saw the gruesome corpse on the floor, he gulped and said, "Lord Akio, this is Taniguchi—"
"I don't care who he is," Akio interrupted, pointing at the corpse. "Throw this trash back to the Taniguchi family."
"Yes, Lord Akio!" The samurai quickly nodded, picked up the body, and left.
"Taniguchi? One of the families under the Kanjou Commission," Akio thought to himself. He hadn't expected that even a small family like the Taniguchi would dare to covet the position of the Kanjou Commissioner.
But Akio didn't dwell on it. Right now, he was more interested in returning to Chisato, who was probably still asleep.
Akio brought the food back to Chisato's room, where she was lying on the bed, staring at the ceiling, lost in thought.
"What are you thinking about?" Akio asked curiously.
"Ah~ My Lord, you're back," Chisato sat up and greeted him. "Nothing much, just thinking about you."
"How was your morning at the Kanjou Commission?" Chisato asked with a smile.
"Not too bad, not too busy," Akio replied. "I brought you some delicious food!"
As they ate lunch, Akio suddenly asked, "Chisato, if anyone dares to threaten you at the Kanjou Commission in the next few days, I'm giving you the authority to kill them on the spot."
"Huh?" Chisato was taken aback, confused.
"This morning, I killed a piece of trash—someone from the Taniguchi family, I think," Akio said. "These people have gotten too arrogant. Hiiragi Shinsuke's death doesn't mean the Hiiragi family has weakened, Chisato. If anyone like that shows up again, just kill them."
"Don't worry about the consequences. If they dare to cause trouble at the Kanjou Commission, wipe out their entire family," Akio added. "You now have the power to destroy them with a wave of your hand. There's no need to hold back."
"I… I understand," Chisato nodded. She had never even killed a chicken before, so the idea of killing someone was psychologically challenging for her. But she didn't want to disappoint Akio.
…
Meanwhile, at the Taniguchi residence, the head of the Taniguchi family had noticed that his eldest son was missing and was asking around.
Just then, a Kanjou Commission samurai carried in a body and coldly tossed it at the entrance of the Taniguchi family's dining hall.
"My son!" The Taniguchi matriarch broke into tears upon seeing the corpse. It was her son!
"What happened?" The Taniguchi patriarch's face darkened as he glared at the samurai.
"Your son was quite impressive," the samurai sneered, not bothering to explain further. "What kind of status does he think he has to provoke Lord Akio?"
With that, the samurai turned and left. He was a devoted follower of Akio and had no intention of being polite to the Taniguchi family.
"Akio?" The Taniguchi patriarch's expression turned grim.
The Taniguchi matriarch continued to wail, demanding revenge for her son.
"Even if it's Akio, you can't just kill my son for no reason!" the Taniguchi patriarch said coldly. "Gather everyone. We're going to the Kanjou Commission this afternoon to demand an explanation!"
…
In the afternoon, at Chisato's request, Akio accompanied her to the Kanjou Commission. To their surprise, a large crowd had gathered outside, with people wailing and causing chaos. The Kanjou Commission samurai, as members of the commission, couldn't forcibly drive them away, which only emboldened the crowd.
"What's going on?" Akio frowned.
The samurai who had delivered the corpse earlier quickly explained, "Lord Akio! It's the Taniguchi family. They've brought their entire family to demand an explanation, claiming you killed their eldest son without reason."
"How annoying," Akio said, watching as dozens of people knelt on the ground, wailing and demanding that Akio come out. Some of the women were even hurling insults.
"This is irritating. Chisato, handle them. Make sure they can never speak again," Akio said, casually kicking a Taniguchi family member blocking his path. The man was sent flying and died upon hitting a tree. Akio then walked straight into the Kanjou Commission.
He left it to Chisato to toughen her resolve. His message was clear: annihilate them.
Chisato stepped forward and declared loudly, "Do you think the gods are unaware of your actions?"
But the Taniguchi family continued to hurl filthy insults, causing Chisato's expression to darken. She decided there was no point in saying more.
"I am the Acting Commissioner of the Kanjou Commission, appointed by the Shogun herself. The Taniguchi family has threatened and bribed, defying the Shogun's orders. They deserve death!"
As soon as Chisato finished speaking, the entire Kanjou Commission seemed to plunge into winter, becoming bitterly cold. The members of the Taniguchi family were instantly frozen into ice sculptures, and in a moment, everyone who had come was dead.
"It's divine punishment! Divine punishment!" The onlookers knelt down, shouting in awe. In their minds, only a god could achieve such a feat.
"The Taniguchi family must have done something unforgivable! They deserved this!"
Indeed, in this world, people's faith in the gods was absolute. Even without evidence, most believed without question in the judgment of the divine.
