"Frankly, I don't care." the Agares heiress cut me off, looking me in the eye. "Your lack of Pillar standing is inconsequential.

Whether you bear the name or not, Phenex blood flows through your veins. That was the only reason my parents even considered this arrangement.

But even if you could not summon the Wind, I would still choose you. I would much rather have a husband who stares down the impossible and does his best to conquer it than a sniveling worm that leeches off of those around him.

The strength of your character is most important to me. The fact that you are immensely powerful for your age and command the flames of Hell is merely a much welcome bonus."

Seekvaira took a deep breath, standing from her chair and walking around the table to take my hands in hers.

"I am not asking for your answer right now, Riser, but please think about it. I do not seek to chain you.

I desire a partner. Our duel banished all of my doubts. I will wait as long as you need. Just…" Seekvaira released my right hand, summoning a scroll of paper with a flash of black magic.

She turned my left hand over and placed the scroll in it, curling my fingers around the parchment.

"Think about it." She released me and stepped back, bowing her head slightly. "Thank you for hosting myself and my peerage, Lord Riser. We will be retiring to the Agares estate for some much needed rest. I wish you well."

"Riser." I said, rolling the scroll between my fingers.

"I beg your pardon?" Seekvaira said.

"Call me Riser. Drop the 'lord'."

Seekvaira's smile was as radiant as the rising sun as she said, "Thank you for hosting us, Riser." There was an exuberant air about her as she gathered her peerage together.

Bafeel hid her face bashfully as, when she tried to swipe one last sandwich, the tray levitated up to Pegasus's mouth on a bed of warm air currents controlled by my Wind, allowing the mighty steed to gobble up the few snacks Bafeel hadn't already hand fed him. Bafeel really needed to work on her sleight of hand.

Alivian bowed deeply to me as he joined his King, Issei following his example.

"I look forward to hearing your answer." Seekvaira said as she cast a teleportation spell. The next moment, a black flash pulled her and her peerage away.

"That proceeded better than I had anticipated!" Arondight cheered, a cupcake in either hand. Where had she gotten cupcakes?

"Indeed." Clarissa said, standing and starting to walk towards the manor. "There is much to prepare."

Valerie tackle-hugged me, squeeing adorably. "Congratulations! Don't worry! I know a lot of people who can help plan the wedding.

They're all dead, so their fashion sense is a touch out of date, but they were the best at what they do!"

Valerie darted off, already talking to people only she perceived, one of the downsides, or upsides depending on your perspective, of her Longinus.

I looked at Yubelluna in confusion. "But I haven't agreed to anything yet?"

My queen smiled at me. "Of course, my king. Of course."

"Kalawarner? Help?" I said, turning to the last bastion of sanity in the vicinity.

The blue-haired woman studied me with calculating eyes. "So…someone just has to pass her little test to be able to fuck you, right?"

I fell back into my chair, cradling my head in my hands. "That's it. The world's gone fucking crazy."

I felt Yubelluna's hands gently massaging my back. "Do not worry, my king. We will help you through this."

As insane as the entire situation was, that sentence was oddly comforting. My peerage was here for me – I had people I could rely on. A spark of joy won out in the tornado of mixed feelings within me and a small smile settled onto my face.

------------

I gently knocked on the door in front of me, opening it and walking into the room when I heard a muted "Enter".

I looked around and immediately averted my eyes. This was the room Yubelluna and I had decided was best for Arondight.

It was on the second floor and had a small balcony attached to it, giving her a view of the outside.

It also happened to be a room Serafall had stocked with several outfits I didn't even know the name of.

All I was able to recognize were the dresses, blouses, and varying forms of skirts and pants.

Arondight was apparently very pleased with the wealth of options in her accommodations if her current state of dress was anything to go by.

Turning around so I was facing the door and staring studiously forward, I said, "Arondight, the reason I knocked was to determine whether or not I should enter the room.

If you are stark naked, it is a good indicator that I should not enter the room."

Arondight, who I assumed was still standing completely nude near a pile of outfits on her bed that she was likely in the process of trying on, said,

"You are my king, Riser. Nothing I am or possess will remain hidden from you. May I ask what your intent was in coming here, my king?"

If she could handle it, I could be mature about the situation. Turning around and keeping my eyes firmly trained on Arondight's own silver eyes, I said,

"I came to see how you were adjusting to everything. I imagine things have happened in rather quick succession for you. Is there anything I can do for you to make it easier?"

Rather than continue trying on the dozen outfits lying before her, Arondight turned to fully face me with a content smile.

"It has been tumultuous, my king, but I am resilient. You have already done more for me than you will ever understand.

I was trapped within a prison of no bars. You set me free, my king. You gave me a body."

"That may be the case, but as you said, I am your king. It's my responsibility to make sure you have everything you need."
