"I'm really fine. Go to sleep."
Liam reached over and turned off the bedside lamp.
Ava stared at his strong, handsome profile, her eyes quietly tracing his features for a long time.
In the darkness, the angles of his face appeared even sharper, like the shadowy depths of a sea—still on the surface, but you could sense a turbulent storm brewing below.
She quietly tried to figure out what was wrong.
After a pause, she said softly, "Ethan's family archive—the one I'm restoring—it was brought to me at Blue Ridge. If you're not okay with it, I'll return it to him tomorrow and tell him to find someone else."
Liam responded calmly, "No need. Restore it. That's your work."
"But I just get the feeling you're not really okay with it."
"I'm fine," he said, his tone flat, almost perfunctory.
It didn't sound like "fine" at all.
Ava took a slow breath. "Just tell me what you want me to do. Whatever it is, I'll do it. I'll listen to you."
