Derek Fields couldn't help feeling a pang of regret.
Liam Grant had transferred the money so readily—one million dollars in one shot—and then just blocked his number. What a shame.
Still, the trip hadn't been for nothing.
A million bucks in the account meant he could finally pay off some debts.
About ten minutes later, his son, Chaz Fields, arrived and helped him up from the sidewalk. The two of them climbed into a beat-up car parked nearby.
Chaz started the engine. Just as he turned the corner, they passed by a Wells Fargo branch.
"Stop the car!" Derek suddenly shouted.
Chaz slammed the brakes and pulled over.
Derek pulled a debit card from his wallet and handed it to him. "Go check the balance on this card. See if the million's there."
Chaz's eyes lit up as he took the card. "You actually got the money this time?"
