"I do know the truth," Denis snapped, his frustration boiling over. "Why can't you believe me for once?"
He grabbed her by the shoulders, shoving her back against the wall. The desperation in his eyes bordered on madness. "He is lying to you. He is hiding things. And you are too blind to see it. He has a lot of enemies who can target you to get back at him. You have no idea what kind of danger is looming around…"
Anne stiffened under his grip, her heart racing in fury.
"Get off me."
She shoved Denis back with all her strength and, in the same breath, raised her hand and slapped him hard across the face.
Denis stumbled a step back, stunned, his hand flying to his cheek.
Her chest heaved with fury, her eyes blazing. "Don't forget I'm married to your cousin. You don't get to touch me. Don't ever cross that line again."
For a heartbeat, Denis didn't move—just glared at her, his body shaking with fury.
"You'll regret this," he growled before storming out of the room.
