Zara paused beside her car, her hand resting on the door handle as she waited for Ethan to catch up. He stepped out of his car slowly, holding the spot on his jaw where her father had punched him.
As they entered the police station, Zara noticed him wince slightly, checking his reflection in a nearby window.
"That cut?" she said casually. "That's nothing compared to what I got from your parents."
Ethan rolled his eyes and walked ahead of her without a word, muttering under his breath.
Zara followed him silently as he spoke to a police officer at the desk. By the time she joined them, the officer was already leading them down the hall. Ethan trailed behind, and she kept her distance.
They were soon ushered into a small office where Detective Samson sat behind a desk, adjusting the files before him.
"Ms. Quinn, thank you for coming," he greeted. "We've completed our investigation into the accident. It turns out it was a case of DUI."
