Chapter 2 - The Ever Plain's: Keyholder

4 days later..

In the office of one of the many tall buildings in the northeastern city, we see Larvan sitting at his desk doing his job, and the strange door behind him.

Sigh...

"I called it, I had hoped it wouldn't be like this but the outcome is boredom after all, in the past four days I've been doing the same thing over and over without even a single shred of joy or accomplishment, or anything that could give life to me or the people of this place, they do everything like its second nature to them, like breathing or like a robot or something, seriously." -Larvanthought to himself.

Larvan stood up and decided to take a break.

He arrived at the rooftop of his company building, holding a cup of coffee and some snacks, leaning on the rails near the edge and staring into the distance.

He looked at the door behind him, seemingly coming to terms with himself.

"What's the harm in trying right?" -Larvan said with a smile.

He finished his coffee and snacks, then he reached for the handle of the door, with a hint of hesitation in his arms, he grabbed a hold of the door knob tightly as if to release the anxiety within him.

Clank....

Creak....

He turned the knob, the door opening to a dark empty looking wide space, Larvan took a step inside with slight hesitation in his mind.

Huuuu....

Haaaa....

Larvan exhaled, then inhaled to calm himself before fully entering the door, and closing it behind him as he went in.

"What's this? It's dark, but there are grains of light integrated around the walls and floors." -Larvan thought to himself

"Hello again mister Larvan." -She said with a smile on her face

Fwip...

Larvan, startled by the sudden sound he heard, raised his hands in a boxing stance in the direction of the sound, but quickly put down his guard when he realised who it was.

Haaaa...

"It's just you, I thought something would have already happened when I entered, like a tutorial of some sort." -Larvan happily relieved.

Larvan noticed that the guide looked different, she now has rainbow like eyes and royal yellow like hair and glasses, and a more slender figure with glowing jade like skin.

With his look of curiosity, he unknowingly stared at her for some time.

"!?" -Larvan realised.

"I'm sorry." -Larvan apologized embarrassingly as he was caught staring.

The guide chuckled and smiled.

"It's alright mister Larvan, you're not the first and you're certainly not the last." -The guide said with a smile.

"Like what I said before, we are not human, we guides can be whatever creature we want to be." -The guide said.

She moves closer to Larvan and holds out her hand at the door where he just entered too.

Larvan gazed in the direction of where her arm was pointing.

The door compressed and turned into a key floating in the palm of the guide.

"There we go, here mister Larvan, you're now a Keyholder, congrats." -The guide said with a smile, trying to give Larvan the key.

Larvan hesitated for a bit and took the key from her hand, which then transformed into a tattoo on his palm.

"?!" -Larvan was shocked as he widened his eyes.

"Don't worry, you can transform it back into a key as you will it, or transfer the tattoo to a different part of your body." -The guide said.

Larvan then did so, he took the key and turned it into a tattoo on top of where his heart is located.

"Alright then, let me start by explaining some basic things.

This place we are in right now is the guide's Land, it is a place where we, the guide, explain the basics of being a Keyholder and the Ever Plain's to all beginners at the same time, as we currently speak, there are others like you that are being guided in this place but in a different dimension.

This place is only available for guides like us, and the only time Keyholders like yourself can be here is when you are required to.

So let us move to the tutorial, shall we? I'll also be explaining things, as we do so." -The guide said with a smile as she walked.

Larvan listened intently without missing a single word, and followed the guide to another door, which opened up to a corridor that stretched for who knows how long and with many forks and some doors.

"This is the Ever Hall.

The in between of the Ever Plain's and the outside world, the halls are infinite and as you can see, there are some doors here and there." -The guide said with enthusiasm as she spread her arms.

As they walked along the halls, turned corners, and continued on, they walked for a long time, Larvan had a lot of thoughts coming from his mind.

"Umm... May I ask where we are going?" -Larvan asked with a crooked smile full of questions.

"Hmm? Ooh yeah, of course, we are going to your first Land, there we will conduct your tutorial." -The guide said happily.

"Land?" -Larvan asked and tilting his head.

"Yes, Land is what we call the place that borne or the physical manifestation of the will, imagination, and dreams of all living things, from illusion to reality.

The Lands are slowly being dragged and integrated into the Ever Plains as we speak." -The guide said.

Larvan processed the new information as he walked, he wanted to ask something, but held it off for now.

"We have been walking for a while now, corner to corner, walking in circles, I see doors upon doors that are just plain gray, and yet we haven't seen a single individual other than ourselves.

We entered a door leading to another hall, then entered another door, and this time the door had black colors, within it was a town, sun, and a clear blue sky, we walked past the town streets, entering another door leading back to another hall." -Larvan thought to himself.

"That mister Larvan was a Land, whose item was already taken by a Keyholder or another, turning the once vibrant color of the door to blackened.

Don't misunderstand, it doesn't ruin the Land, it actually helps the process of it being integrated into the Ever Plains since the items are like weights that slow down the process." -The guide explained.

Larvan took a mental note of what she said as another one of his questions, he prepared to ask a question that he had been wondering about for some time now.

"May ask?" -Larvan asked.

"Ask away." -The guide said while smiling.

"Well, if there are beginners and people in the Ever Plain's, how is it that we haven't seen anyone yet? Or even traces of them?" -Larvan asked.

"Well, that's simple, because I am a guide, I know where everything and everyone is or was within the scope of the Ever Plain's. Except for places secured by people using items so that no one can peek in or find out information about it.

I have been making sure that we don't run into anyone just yet by selecting a suitable and efficient path.

The only way for anyone to find us or us bumping into them is for them to voluntarily search for us, or we have the same efficient path but different destinations." -The guide said with a smirk.

"Items?" -Larvan asked unconsciously as the word caught his attention.

"Yes, Items, and I will explain it when we enter the Land as we have arrived." -The guide said.

The guide pointed at a door, but this door was different, it had colors than the usual gray doors they had encountered through the halls, this door felt more like it was alive.

The guide opened the door and led Larvan in, then a scenery of nature, rivers, mountains, lakes, and animals was shown, it was harmonious.

"Wow, this is beautiful." -Larvan said while his eyes sparkled wide.

The place they arrived at was a clearing next to a lake.
