The next morning came too quickly.
Golden light streamed through the curtains, casting soft shadows over the tangled sheets. Lucifer and Evelyn lay tangled in each other's warmth, skin against skin, hearts still echoing the night before.
Evelyn stirred slightly, her fingers brushing against his chest before she shifted away, tugging the covers up to shield herself.
Lucifer noticed.
"What is it?" he asked gently, his voice still husky with sleep.
Evelyn offered a smile, biting her lower lip as her eyes darted away. "Nothing…"
He studied her. "You're lying." He propped himself up on one elbow, brushing a strand of hair from her face. "We just slept together, Evelyn. And now you're hiding from me?"
She clutched the sheets tighter, her cheeks flushing. "I just… I don't usually do this," she mumbled. "It's not about you. I just feel… exposed."
Lucifer didn't laugh. He didn't tease.
Instead, he sat up and reached for her dress, holding it open. "Come here."
