Nagato's body slowly began to emit a golden light. At the same time, the sealed Uchiha Itachi was also enveloped in that same golden glow.
Naruto stood to the side, watching intently. He recognized this phenomenon immediately—it was the manifestation of the Six Paths: Outer Path — Samsara of Heavenly Life Technique.
He had seen this resurrection seal twice before. Once in his past life, when Pain used it after being defeated, and once during the Fourth Great Ninja War, when Obito used it to bring Madara back to life.
A hissing, steaming sound echoed like boiling water.
The binding cloths that had sealed Itachi began falling away one by one. Even the talismans slipped off and disintegrated into the air.
Naruto understood—this meant the resurrection had succeeded.
Itachi had now returned with a flesh-and-blood body. He was no longer in an undead state, which meant the sealing talismans, no longer binding a reanimated corpse, had naturally lost their effect.
Nagato lowered his hand from the seal formation, panting heavily. His vibrant red hair began to bleach to white at a speed visible to the naked eye.
He could feel it clearly—his chakra reserves and life force were nearly depleted.
Naruto quickly rushed over and caught Nagato, supporting him like a princess carry. He walked over to the pre-prepared seal formation and placed Nagato inside gently.
Once seated, Nagato glanced up at Naruto, his breathing shallow. "Naruto... if you fail... you must promise to take care of your... Konan..."
On the side, Orochimaru was already forming seals. He glanced at Nagato and smirked. "Oh my... Nagato, such little faith in me."
Nagato gave a bitter smile. "I do hope you succeed... So I can use this technique again... to resurrect Yahiko…"
Naruto, hearing this, smiled slightly. "Uncle Snake, let's begin."
Orochimaru nodded and replied with a rare hint of seriousness, "Understood."
"Edo Tensei Release — Modified Variant: Rebirth Conversion Seal!"
With a hiss, green light burst from the seal, quickly enveloping the nearby White Zetsu body. It whimpered and twitched as a brilliant blue chakra surged out from it and was drawn into Nagato's body.
"Naruto! Replenish the chakra!" Orochimaru commanded.
Naruto nodded. "On it!"
He extended his palm into the center of the seal. Kurama's chakra surged through him and into the seal in a continuous torrent.
Inside the seal space, Kurama let out a snort. "Tch. You're a real spendthrift—always giving away my chakra like candy."
Nagato, who had slumped from exhaustion, suddenly trembled. He could feel vitality pouring into him in waves. The weakness in his limbs was fading. His mind grew sharp again.
"This technique... it's incredible... It feels like it rivals the Sage of Six Paths' reincarnation!"
Orochimaru chuckled at the praise. "No need to flatter me. Credit goes to Chiyo-sama. I only improved her technique slightly. Still, it's not quite on par with the Rikudō's technique. After all, bringing back the dead... that's the realm of gods. But still, this is a pseudo-immortal art."
Naruto watched as Nagato's white hair slowly returned to red. That meant his life force was recovering steadily.
A weight lifted from Naruto's chest.
Thank goodness... If Nagato had died because of this, I really wouldn't have forgiven myself.
Meanwhile, Itachi rose from the cloth wraps that once bound him. He flexed his fingers, observing the restored blood flow in his limbs. "I'm... alive? I've truly... been resurrected…"
Itachi was stunned. Naruto had actually brought him back. This body—completely healthy. It was made of real flesh and blood. And his eyes—his eye power felt perfect.
As he looked over to Nagato recovering inside the seal, a realization struck him. Naruto... he's working on a complete resurrection cycle. What exactly is he planning?
In the depths of the underground base where White Zetsu clones were bred, Yakushi Kabuto suddenly sensed something and frowned.
Just now, his connection with Itachi had completely severed.
What's going on?
Even if someone were sealed, the bond of Edo Tensei shouldn't break so cleanly.
There was only one possible explanation—Edo Tensei had been released, not sealed.
"Did Naruto just... undo the summoning contract of Edo Tensei?" Kabuto muttered in disbelief. "Why would he do that? Just to free Itachi? That's too much effort for a single shinobi..."
He never once considered the possibility that Naruto had actually resurrected Itachi in the flesh. To Kabuto, that would be an irrational use of resources.
Back at the seal formation, Nagato's recovery was complete.
Orochimaru stood up, wiping the sweat from his brow. "Naruto... this technique not only consumes chakra... it takes a serious toll on the user's mental reserves too."
Naruto nodded. He felt it too. The seal drained him. His limbs were heavy, and a nap sounded like a good idea.
Itachi walked up to Naruto and bowed slightly. "Naruto... thank you for bringing me back."
Naruto clapped a hand on his shoulder. "No need for thanks. Though, if you think walking around with your own face will be a hassle, just wear a mask again. Like when you were in the Anbu."
Itachi gave a small smile and nodded. That had been his plan anyway.
Suddenly, Itachi's eyes began to fracture and crumble before falling apart completely.
Naruto exhaled in relief.
That makes sense…
Before his death, Itachi had transplanted his Mangekyō Sharingan into Sasuke. The version of Itachi summoned by Edo Tensei retained perfect ocular abilities. But now that he had been resurrected, his original eyes were gone.
Thankfully… Naruto thought to himself, I still have Danzo's collection of Sharingan.
"Uncle Snake, implant two Sharingan into Itachi."
Orochimaru nodded and flexed his fingers. He prepared the surgical tools and performed the eye transplantation.
Several hours later, Itachi opened his eyes once more, now possessing a new pair of Sharingan.
They weren't his original eyes, but with Itachi's talent, he would soon master them just the same.
He turned to Naruto with sincerity in his voice. "Thank you again, Naruto."
In his heart, Itachi had already let go of the world long ago. But now that Naruto had brought him back, it stirred something deep inside.
Very well… I'll put on the mask again… and continue to observe this world from the shadows.
Naruto looked at him seriously. "Amegakure's short on Anbu Captains. You're it. Killer Bee's also raising a bunch of brats there. Help him train them."
Itachi nodded, then reached into his sleeve. "Also… here's what you wanted."
He asked for a scroll and pen, then filled a blank scroll with intricate sigils. After finishing, he bit his finger and let a few drops of blood fall onto the scroll.
Orochimaru raised an eyebrow. "Ah… a contract summon? Cautious as always, Itachi."
Naruto's eyes widened in realization.
Contract summoning was more complex than standard Kuchiyose no Jutsu. Instead of summoning a familiar creature once bonded, it required individually written sigils and blood to activate each time.
Itachi sighed. "I didn't have much choice. Shisui's body was too valuable… I found this preservation method in the clan's secret scrolls."
He formed a quick sequence of hand signs.
In a flash of smoke, a giant white bear appeared before them. A cold wind swept the chamber as the beast materialized, carrying a large, seal-covered bag on its back.
"Damn! It's freezing!" Naruto instinctively stepped back.
Orochimaru's eyes gleamed. "A polar bear from an arctic habitat… impressive summon."
Itachi nodded. "Correct. To preserve Shisui's body, I signed a contract with this beast. In an extremely cold environment, his body remains cryogenically preserved for decades."
The polar bear saw Itachi, lowered the bag from its back, and picked up the summoning scroll. It bit into the scroll and tore it apart, dissolving the contract. Then, with a puff of smoke, it vanished.
Everyone's eyes turned to the steaming, seal-covered bag now lying on the ground.
Inside… was the preserved body of Uchiha Shisui.
