Obito, disguised as the clumsy "Tobi," looked around at the scattered shinobi encircling him. "You guys are underestimating me too much!"
"Ninja Art—No Passing Technique!" he declared with theatrical flair.
Suddenly, his figure burst out from behind a log placed on the path the group had to cross.
"Boo!" Tobi shouted, diving back into the ground just as quickly.
"Ha!" he cried again, popping up in front of Yamato.
This cycle continued endlessly, forcing the entire squad to retreat to their original positions, unable to make any forward progress.
"What kind of jutsu is this..." someone muttered, dumbfounded.
"Aha!" Tobi called out from atop a large tree. "I've got it! This is the Ninja Whack-a-Mole Technique!"
Everyone:
The group silently stared at him, deadpan.
"Looks like we can't move forward unless we take him down," Yamato said, glancing at Kakashi.
Kakashi nodded in agreement.
"Everyone, execute Plan A! Attack!" Yamato commanded.
"Akamaru! Let's go!" Kiba signaled.
Yamato formed hand seals behind him. "Wood Style: Silent Killing Technique!"
Countless branches surged from the ground, aiming straight at Tobi body. He leapt into the air to dodge.
"Fang Over Fang!" Akamaru and Kiba spiraled toward him like a drill.
"Wahh! That was close!" Tobi yelped, dodging again.
"Cherry Blossom Impact!" Sakura launched a punch as Tobi descended toward a branch.
"Nani?!" Her fist passed straight through him!
"Got him!" Yamato said softly as thick branches suddenly clamped tightly around Tobi head.
"Aahhh! It hurts~!" Tobi groaned, wriggling side to side.
In the next moment, he escaped the bind and flipped upside down onto a nearby tree branch.
"Good thing my body is so flexible," he muttered, casually supporting his neck. "In that case, it's time to fight back!"
"Everyone, be careful!" Kakashi warned.
Tobi suddenly clasped his hands. "Secret Technique: Umbrella Lizard Technique!"
"Back off! Sakura! Kiba!" Kakashi shouted.
Tobi Akatsuki cloak, which hung upside down, suddenly flared out like an umbrella.
The group tensed, waiting for the jutsu's effect…
"Uh..." Tobi scratched his head. "That's the full effect of the jutsu..."
Everyone:
"Are you kidding me?!" Kakashi growled. "Shino!"
"On it," Shino said calmly. A swarm of kikaichū beetles erupted from beneath his coat.
"Ugh! The Aburame Clan! So dense! So disgusting!" Obito cried out, genuinely repulsed.
"Shino, you seem... pretty fired up today," Kiba observed.
"Of course. If you want to know why, it's because I was excluded from the mission to retrieve Sasuke," Shino replied in his usual monotone.
Everyone: "...It's been years, man."
"Go!" Shino commanded. The insects swarmed forward, surrounding Tobi.
"Ahhh! That's disgusting!" Tobi shouted, hopping around in panic.
"Secret Technique: Insect Jar!" Shino declared.
"Nice one, Shino!" Kiba praised.
"Let me finish him," Shino said, face still emotionless. "If you want to know why... it's because once I join a mission, I finish it."
Everyone: "...You still holding onto that grudge?!"
"Nani?!" someone yelled as Shino's bugs suddenly scattered.
"Hinata!" Kakashi called out.
"There!" Hinata pointed to a distant tree.
Everyone turned and spotted Tobi waving at them from afar. "Oops! Sorry~"
"Is it really time-space ninjutsu...?" someone muttered.
"Tch! Don't think you can fool my nose! Fang Over Fang!" Kiba declared, spinning toward Ah Fei.
But Tobi sidestepped easily, causing Kiba to slam head-first into the ground.
"Owww... Did my attack just pass through him again?!"
"Umm... he dodged at the last moment..." Hinata said softly.
At that moment, a white plant-like figure rose from a tree.
"Report?" Obito asked.
"Jiraiya was rescued by Uchiha Shisui, but he's seriously injured. Pain left for Konoha a day ago—the invasion should have already started," Black Zetsu informed him grimly.
"What did you say?!" Kakashi shouted, eyes widening.
Obito's tone shifted, becoming more composed and serious. "Just as it sounds. The Akatsuki leader has gone to Konoha to capture the Nine-Tails. Konoha must be in chaos by now."
"Nani?!" Everyone gasped as a hawk swooped down, bearing Konoha's emergency signal.
"Kakashi-sensei?!" The team looked to him.
"Go! Full speed to Konoha!" Kakashi ordered.
"But Naruto..." Hinata hesitated.
"Don't worry. That idiot won't die that easily," Kakashi assured, eyes sharp.
"Scatter!" he ordered.
Everyone vanished in a blur, rushing back to the village.
This time, Tobi did not try to stop them.
"Are you sure Sasuke can stop the Nine-Tails Jinchūriki when the time comes?" Obito asked, remembering the beast's rage.
"Of course," Black Zetsu replied confidently. As if I'd tell you he's the reincarnation of Indra...
"Then why the hell haven't you gone to find Naruto yet?! Didn't you see he wasn't with them just now?!" Obito snapped.
Black Zetsu's expression turned grim. Without a word, he sank into the tree and disappeared.
Konoha Village
"Investigation complete!" a Konoha shinobi reported after patrol.
The other three nodded. "Good weather today."
Peace returned to Konoha... for now.
"Time to submit our daily report," one of the Jōnin muttered.
Suddenly, a figure appeared in front of him!
"Who—?!" he managed to cry out before a black chakra rod pierced his chest.
The other three leapt back instinctively!
"That gear...! Do you recognize it?" one of the Chūnin gasped.
Two more shinobi dove from above, grabbing the intruder. One of them shouted to the third,
"You know what to do!"
"Understood!" the third replied, heart pounding as he bolted to alert the Hokage.
Before he could take five steps, the attacker raised a hand—and the shinobi was yanked back by invisible force, impaled mid-air.
The camera panned out to reveal the attacker standing atop Konoha's wall—Tendō Pain, black chakra rod still in hand.
"It begins," he murmured, eyes locked onto the Hidden Leaf.
Swish! Konan and the remaining Five Paths of Pain landed beside him.
"From now on... let the world know pain!" Tendō declared.
Boom! Asura Path hurled Animal Path over the wall and into the village.
"Intruder detected!" the Barrier Division cried. "Sector B, west gate! Single enemy!"
Gate sentries Neji and another Jōnin raced to respond.
Animal Path landed silently, slammed his palms together. "Summoning Jutsu!"
The Six Paths of Pain all reappeared within Konoha.
"Scatter!" Tendō barked.
Whoosh! All six bodies vanished, spreading across the village.
Asura Path landed in an open square, removed his forearm, and yanked out a string of missiles.
Whiiiiir—BOOM!!
Explosions ripped through the village.
The Invasion of Konoha... begins!
