Arkham Asylum, that ancient and gloomy structure, stood tall at the edge of the city.
Thick fog engulfed the surroundings, and a cold wind howled, carrying with it eerie whispers.
The gates of the asylum were tightly shut. Rusted iron bars were overgrown with vines, resembling chains of confinement.
On top of the surrounding walls, dim streetlights were spaced at intervals. Their light appeared faint and blurry through the fog, adding to the eerie atmosphere.
Inside Arkham.
On a makeshift stage built from old tables, a clown in a cheap costume and a poorly dressed Batman were engaged in a brawl.
The Joker's makeup was exaggerated and twisted. His movements were ridiculous yet tinged with madness.
Batman's costume was ill-fitting and crude. His fighting style was stiff and awkward.
"Joker, when are we getting out of here?"
The Mad Hatter shouted impatiently. He and the Riddler were already tired of this boring performance.
Only the Joker found it hilarious. His sharp, piercing laughter echoed through the room, as if this absurd play was the most entertaining thing in the world.
The Joker suddenly stopped fighting, tilted his head at the Mad Hatter, and grinned from ear to ear. His exaggerated red lips stretched wide, revealing a mouth full of crooked yellow teeth that glistened in the dim light.
"Getting out? Hahahaha…"
His laugh shook the walls of the cell.
"My dear Hatter, aren't we already 'out'? Just look around—this stage, this act—it's way more entertaining than the streets of Gotham!"
Then, he grabbed the front of the "Batman's" costume and shook him hard, making the cheap fabric rustle loudly.
The Joker then hopped to the edge of the table, balancing on one foot, swaying precariously but looking completely entranced. He winked at the Mad Hatter.
"As for the timing—when this play reaches its climax! When Batman breaks down and cries, abandoning his laughable moral code.
Or when those cowardly cops and nurses out there get so terrified that they throw the doors open for us—then we'll stroll out and throw Gotham the most unforgettable party of all time!"
After speaking, the Joker leaned his head back and let out another burst of maniacal laughter, resonating through the chaotic halls of Arkham.
"You've made arrangements outside, right? When are they coming to break us out?" the Mad Hatter asked urgently.
"Who knows? Maybe the very next second. Hahaha…"
The Joker's wild laughter echoed again in the empty room.
BOOM—
A sudden explosion cut through the laughter, loud enough to make ears ring. Everyone in Arkham was drawn toward the sound.
"They're here, Joker. You really pulled it off!" the Riddler shouted in delight.
But the Joker looked puzzled. His plan wasn't supposed to unfold for another five days. This sudden explosion was completely unexpected.
All the guards rushed toward the source of the explosion and saw the intruder.
"Batman?"
After all, more than half the people in Arkham had been sent there by Batman himself.
Deadpool patted the dust off his suit. Hearing someone call him Batman, he flashed a charming smile.
"That's right, I'm Bat-man. I knocked, nobody answered, so I let myself in. I'm here to learn and exchange ideas with Arkham. They say Gotham is full of talent—especially the Joker, I…"
The guards silently pulled out their stun batons.
"He's fake. Arrest him!"
Deadpool's smile froze.
"Hey, hey, hey—what do you mean fake? I've got official Batman certification! This suit's straight from the armory. It's the coolest one—unlike those knockoffs everyone else wears!"
There's no way Batman has a hundred suits in stock. Most of the others are just store-bought imitations.
As the guards charged at him, Deadpool sighed helplessly and looked at an unseen camera.
"This chapter was originally titled Batman vs. Arkham Graduates, but now it's changed to Batman vs. Arkham."
Then, his expression sharpened. He swiftly snatched a baton that was aimed at him and jabbed it back.
The moment the stun baton touched the guard's body, a crackling sound filled the air. The guard convulsed in pain and collapsed.
Deadpool moved like a ghost. The lazy demeanor from before vanished entirely.
He spun the baton in his hand like a weapon, swinging it with precision toward the oncoming guards.
One brave guard raised his baton and swung at Deadpool's head. Deadpool tilted his head slightly, easily dodging the attack, then slammed his elbow into the guard's armpit. As the guard bent over in pain, Deadpool delivered a fierce kick to his stomach, sending him flying into two others behind him.
Deadpool stepped forward and pressed the baton against a fallen guard, electricity crackling again. The guard's body twitched violently, his eyes rolling back.
A few crafty guards tried to sneak up behind Deadpool. But as if he had eyes on the back of his head, he flung the baton backward. With a loud "smack," it hit a guard right on the nose. Blood sprayed everywhere, and the man screamed in pain.
Deadpool spun around smoothly, bending, twisting, and striking in one fluid motion. The baton kept hitting its marks. One by one, the guards dropped to the floor, groaning in agony.
From down the corridor, another squad of guards arrived—with guns.
"Ready? Here comes the classic scene!"
Deadpool tossed away the baton and reached for the sword on his back.
Hmm?
His hand got tangled in a cape.
"F**k!"
BANG BANG BANG!
The guards didn't hesitate. They opened fire.
CLANG CLANG CLANG!
Deadpool blocked several bullets with his sword, sparks flying with every deflection.
Still, some bullets hit him squarely.
The guards exhaled in relief. Even this fake Batman had some serious fighting skills.
They approached Deadpool, preparing to confirm the kill.
"Surprise!"
Deadpool suddenly lifted his head. A flash of his blade cut through the dim corridor. The guards around him all dropped instantly.
"He's still alive! Shoot!"
Just as one of them shouted, Deadpool appeared before him and smacked him with the back of the blade.
BANG BANG BANG!
CLANG CLANG CLANG—
This time, Deadpool blocked all the bullets and charged at the remaining guards.
Some of the guards, terrified, turned and ran. Their footsteps echoed through the hallway, while their comrades behind them screamed in panic.
Those returning guards had faces pale as death, bodies trembling uncontrollably. They shouted incoherently, "Run! Batman's here to rescue the Joker!"
Batman rescuing the Joker?
What a niche line.
The Mad Hatter and Riddler stared at the Joker in disbelief.
"Was this your plan too? Getting Batman to save you?"
Impossible.
The Joker had always wanted to expose Batman's dark side, but no plan of his could ever get Batman to willingly save him.
The Joker stared at the shadowy figure approaching, his eyes wide and unblinking. Not even his exaggerated makeup could conceal the confusion on his face.
Quote of the Chapter:"Madness and chaos may love company, but even insanity can't predict the truly unexpected."
