Chapter 11 - end of a tragedy

In a dark-lit room, the sound of silence laid in.

The twins roamed the faint singular light at the center of the dark space.

Neither of them seems to have moved a muscle but just stay in the silence for what seems like eternity.

While Lyney stared with unfazed expression at Lin, he couldn't help but put his head down, avoiding the stare of this person wearing his sister's face.

No matter how hard he tried to convince himself or re-adjust his mindset, he knew there is no hope of seeing his sister again.

At that moment, Lin wanted nothing more than just discard his senses and fall into a pit of empty void filled with nothingness and solitude.

However, his will has no role in this situation and his choice is non-existent. He must remain in the same room with Lyney until she decides otherwise.

The passage of time lost all meaning and dark emotions creeped into Lin's minds.

His sister used to be everything for him and with her gone he never really had a path in life.

Lyney was the only hope he has, but alas, that did not work out.

With so many thoughts and emotions going through his head, the deafening voice of Lyney resounded in his head.

"Ever since I got my flaw, I couldn't feel any emotions. Even though I had my empathy enhanced it only gives me an understanding of the other party.

"Even before getting infected by The Spelll, I don't think anyone meant a lot to me...

"However,

"I had a dream... yes, it was after Regret used his ability on me that I received a revelation."

Lin listens intuitively, still avoiding looking at Lyney. Although Lin was sick of living, he could not help but feel remorse, be it from the familiar voice or the relaxing tone.

"To be frank, I don't even remember a single detail from this dream.

"But something certainly reshaped my mentality. It could just be Regret's aspect's aftermath; however, I do want to believe in that dream to be the reason.

"And now, I can't get enough of that distant feeling. Honestly, any emotion would do thanks to my flaw, but I'm sure this particular emotion is not completely gone.

"I wish to feel it again... to care for something, to have someone in my life.

"don't get me wrong. I cared for both you and Regret in the last few weeks. It was the closest thing I felt, but comfort never was my fortitude.

"Turns out I made you and Regret, especially, be on guard around me.

"Despite it all,

"I enjoyed this period."

The words of Lyney were soft and calming.

Although her face betrayed the meanings of her words, the tone did change.

The development she went though in those past weeks, or a particular night, really, was relatively remarkable.

The next words she spoke, however, were almost like they came from a different person.

A voice filled with excitement and humane tone resounded in the deep silence.

"Lin, the reason I asked to talk with you in private is for a proposal."

Before knowing it, Lin's vision blurred before a few seconds past for him to understand what happened.

Tears flew down from his eyes, snot filled his nose as if his dream came true.

He did not want his feelings to be toyed like that, yet he could not protest. His voice failed him and instead the only sound came from his vocal cords were unintelligible words that sounded more like sobs.

Raising his head, he while still holding himself from showing weakness, he saw Lyney.

He saw his sister's smile, he heard his sister's voice, and he saw his sister's hand stretched out to him.

Before knowing it, his binds went loose and fell to the ground.

Without a single voice, he took Lyney's hand and as if something awakened within him, he finally let down his walls, let him be vulnerable for the moment and gushed out his emotions he held captive ever since the curse of The Spell.

And at long last...

He finally reunited with his sister.

Human nature is just that. Nature.

Divided by emotions and deprived by sentience. Nature is also divided into biomes and environments.

Each human holds a different type of forest of emotions; however, natural disasters will always appear occasionally to balance both sides.

Disasters such as hurricanes, wildfires, tsunamis…

And on very rare occasions such forces will come from outside the scope of anyone's control.

Each disaster resembles the abnormalities in one's mentality.

And on this day, the Academy experiences a mass of wildfire across the different forests of the students.

A seed of corruption has taken root in different individuals and today those seeds have bloomed and bore their fruits.

Hatred spread across the campus and caused a disaster to burst into flames.

The aftermath was devious. Students were injured severely; some did not make it. The teachers were overwhelmed.

The academy initiated a lockdown protocol marking the end of the tragedy that obscured the academy. The students were instructed to either return to their dorms or go to the nursery all the while the "infected" were taken care of.

Ever since the academy adapted online study for the rest of the year left the students the choice of leaving or staying within the academy's dorms.

Regret was one of the exceptional students who remained in the dorms.

He did not get to say goodbyes to his classmates or even hear from them.

Lin and Lyney seem to avoid him altogether.

Half a year past and Regret kept attending classes and training as usual.

Gaining some survival skills and communication skills, he was ready for the upcoming event of the winter solstice.

However, the wildfire of emotions had not left the building for it's the cause that left unknown and yet to be solved.

At the end of the day, the academy lost a valuable reputation and had to close its doors after the current semester.

Regret stood before the sleeping pods as he felt numbness feeling his mind and fatigue filling his muscles.

Stepping into the sleep pod assigned to him, he let the tranquility fill his mind as his body finally shuts down into a slumber, until the next time he wakes up, as an awakened.
