The snow had begun to soften under the afternoon sun. For the first time in months, I felt warmth on my skin—not just from the sun, but from the rows of transparent-roofed greenhouses standing proud near our main base.

After weeks of hard work, the four greenhouses were finally complete. Each structure stood firm, constructed from layered polycarbonate and reinforced steel, anchored deep into the permafrost. Patrick had managed to hook them up to solar-heated pipes from the base, and Leo and Mr. Summer built insulated compartments to maintain a controlled environment inside.

When I stepped into the first greenhouse, a wave of warm, earthy air met me—like spring trapped in a snow-globe. Inside, Lucy and Mrs. Wilson were setting out rows of labeled wooden trays filled with moist soil. This greenhouse was reserved for leafy greens and shallow-root vegetables. Trays of kale, cabbage, and radish seeds waited to be sown.
