Chapter 68 - Reunion

"Don't absorb the girl, Elvis! Just knock her out." I ordered him.

He let out a disappointed grunt before sending the girl flying away with a backhanded fist she didn't even see coming, making her crash against a nearby building.

"Aww, is she done already? How boring." He complained before a flood of that weird golden liquid emerged from the wall, aiming to crush him.

That was when Michael intervened, using his similar-looking power to match hers and ending the fight in a stalemate. Both were using their power to control a golden fluid, but hers had an ominous smell to it.

"You owe me one, El. Keep your guard up; this one seems a bit more… intense, if you catch my drift." Michael warned his brother as he used his power to turn everything he touched into a gold fluid.

I did owe a favor to Lucian… Well, it's not that he's asking me the impossible, and I would've surely kept her daughter to look into her more… After all, this is the second case of a human turning into a demon… And this one is unrelated to the Laughing Widow.

"Fine, I'll keep your daughter alive and safe with me." I announced.

"I promise I'll treat her as if she were my own daughter. Are you happy now?" I asked him as I approached him.

His daughter rushed forward, screaming obscenities as she was desperately rushing forward towards us. She managed to slip past both my sons and managed to reach her father. For a moment I thought she wanted to attack me, but I quickly realized that I was wrong.

She coated her father with her golden power and tried to make a run for it; unfortunately for her, in her way stood Michael. After seeing his brother being caught off guard so fast, he seemed more attentive than ever; he tried coating his arms in his golden fluid to see if he could convert her power and turn it his.

She made a wall in between them, and Michel punched his way through only to be faced with a blade swung at his neck.

She has some incredible battle senses for a kid who spent most of her life as a civilian.

Elvis came crashing down from the skies, breaking the blade with his bare hands and summoning his demonic artifact, a cane that he used to push her towards me in the middle of that small courtyard.

Before she could recover, Michael tried doing the same thing; he had climbed the buildings and used his golden fluid to propel himself back to the ground, forcing her to step, hiding his next attack in plain sight.

He gathered all the fluid he left floating above the building together to form a large floating golden cube, only to make it crash down towards the girl that was trying to escape, forcing her to use her powers to stop the attack, only to melt the platform, forging various chains that bound her to the ground.

Ah, he must've learned that from Robert. Nice, letting them see us sparring was the correct choice there. They have good spatial awareness and are keeping each other safe. I'm so proud of you.

I watched from the sidelines while my kids were trying their best to make her submit without harming her.

"Olivia! Stop! Can't you realize it? You can't win in this situation; they're far more powerful than you and me combined." Lucian tried to reason with his daughter, but she simply wouldn't listen to him.

I extended the chains towards the two of them and snatched the father away from here while she was desperately trying to free herself.

That poor girl then began screaming in desperation, offering to become our weapon just to have the life of her father spared. It wasn't a pleasant thing to hear or watch.

"Can't you understand the situation you're in? Why don't you start acting glad to be spared? Can't you appreciate the sacrifice your father is making for you?" I shouted as I freed my arms from those chains and made them form small clumps to block the many spears flying at me.

"Olivia, please, stop escalating the situation!" His father pleaded with her, but she didn't listen. She charged towards me, coating her body with her golden power, mainly her fists.

She also tried to recall her spears, but I had blocked them all using my chains, wrapping them around the spears and keeping them anchored to the ground.

The girl was probably not right in the head; perhaps it was because she had turned into a demon that she could no longer think logically, or maybe the reason for her reckless behavior lay somewhere else. It didn't matter; the outcome of that situation was already predetermined.

She tried to once again use her golden power on me, but it didn't work, so she tried to punch me in the face. At the same time I noticed that their suitcase had begun to float.

From within the suitcase a number of demons emerged; they tried to charge at me and were all stopped by Michel and Elvis.

Was that her trump card? She can control demons… But she's clearly not an orange or red grade demon… Does her ability naturally allow her to control demons weaker than her? This could be a lot more useful than I thought.

The demons had golden markings spread all over their bodies, and whenever those markings began to glow, they changed their pattern of behavior, whether they tried to ignore my sons to get to me, to fight back, or to try to bait them away from me and ambush just one of them.

"Are you done yet?" I asked the girl who was punching me desperately.

None of her attacks were strong enough to even hurt, and as she was about to scream something, I grabbed her by the collar of her shirt and slammed her against the wall, destroying the wall and tearing her shirt in pieces.

"So are you still going to struggle? Are you really trying to throw away the life your father is so desperately trying to save here?" I asked her.

She was on the verge of crying.

"Why does he have to die?" She asked me.

"Because his action caused the deaths of many and the suffering of many more to come, even if they didn't send someone like me, many countries would probably—" Before I could finish my sentence, she tried to attack me, crashing a golden wall against me.

I attempted to shatter the wall with a kick, but as soon as the blow landed, the wall melted, coating my body and forming a bunch of chains all around. The same attack Michael used just a few moments ago on her.

"It's useless; a move like this will only ever work if you're roughly on the same level of strength as your enemies; otherwise—" With little effort I made a step forward towards the girl, making the restraints snap away.

I then kicked her further away from her father.

"If only you weren't here!" She screamed in frustration.

"You would've died before you even knew someone was following you." I answered her before she could finish her sentence.

"Kiriam!" His father yelled at me.

"I know, I know, I'm keeping my word; she's still safe and sound." I yelled back at him as I grabbed her by the back of her neck and dragged her in front of him.

"Here, are you happy now?" I said as I dropped her in front of him.

I let those enjoy their last moment together with some privacy while observing them from a distance.

"Dad, that girl is…" Elvis wanted to point out the obvious.

They had managed to subdue the demons in no time and had already returned.

"I know, believe it or not, she's roughly the same age as yours; she was originally a human. I don't know what exactly happened here; we'll figure it all out in due time." I said to calm him down.

"Are you sure that the demon is not involved?" Michael added.

"Yeah, the demons created by the Laughing Widow never displayed such a high level of intelligence." I reminded him as I pinched his cheek as a punishment for not having studied enough.

This is something else, and I fear digging any further would only bring us problems; we should probably fake her death to not rouse any suspicions.

"Do you think her golden powers have anything to do with—"

"Don't even say it as a joke, even if it's true." I admonished Michael before he could finish his sentence.

"Then, is it really the right choice to take her along with us?" Elvis asked me.

Of course, if it hadn't been for him, you would've probably died in a random hallway of the Fracture. You don't even know how desperately I searched for you two back when I heard your mother had died; thankfully, Ilay by then was old enough to hide them.

My sons' lives—I owed them to that man, so it was only fair that I would spare his only daughter and bring her with me.

We watched in silence as those two poor souls held each other, crying their hearts out, as this was the last chance to say one last goodbye to one another.

Strange… I can't detect any fear after all the ruckus we created… What is happening in this city? We should get out of here as soon as possible; this whole place is slowly starting to freak me out.

My instincts were telling me I needed to run away, but I stayed. I gave the father and daughter all the time they needed so they could discuss things, and once they were over, I came in and killed the man in a single attack, punching a hole through his chest.

"You should come with us; that way you'll understand better why I had to do this." I told the crying girl.

I'm sorry to crush your dreams, but I don't want you to plan things behind my back, so I'll show you the cruelty and selfishness of your father. Maybe that way you'll get to understand my position.
