Chapter 59 - The effects of corruption

I saw the flames exploding in Leonhart's hands before they extended towards me as he launched his attack. Thankfully, I was able to block the first attack, which pushed me against the wall, and I lowered my guard to check where Leo was; he struck me again.

"Leo—"

Emerging from the flames, he landed a surprise attack on my abdomen, a palm strike that sent my body back against the wall.

The hell? So fast…

I ended up almost throwing up from that strike; the wings cushioned the impact when I flew straight to the wall. I couldn't even follow the next attack. I know I was hit a second time in the meantime because I then found myself stuck to the wall after I saw clearly that I bounced off of it from the first attack.

Fuck… It's too fast! At this rate he might just kill me. Why is Ilay not stopping him?

He was about to follow up with a second strike aimed at my head, but thankfully he finally realized who I was and stopped midway. My hands were already crossed in front of my face, waiting for the next attack.

"Leo, it's me! It's me! Can't you tell?" I was terrified. I kept shouting, hoping he would wake up, and thankfully it seemed to work.

"I'm so sorry, I was just… messing around, I promise–" I was apologizing for using my powers so abruptly when suddenly I felt something strange drop on the back of my head.

Man, whatever training the uncle made you go through is something else; I could barely react to your attacks, but it's also true that I never really took combat lessons from the uncle.

I thought as I checked to see what it was, only to find a strange fluid dropping from the ceiling; it was sticky and slimy. Even Leonhart's body was slowly melting away, with the skin melting first, exposing what was underneath.

"What the—" I immediately took a step back, scared of what was happening.

I immediately pushed him away, horrified by the sight.

It was a horrifying sight. It seemed extremely painful.

Everything around me was slowly turning into a liquid as I was slowly sinking into the floor. My first reaction was to use the wings on my back to try to take off and keep my feet off the melting ground.

Is this an enemy attack? What do I do here?

The ceiling too was melting, and before I knew it, I was sinking further and further into that sea of slimy material as it dragged me down. I was trying my best to keep my head, struggling as much as I could to keep my head afloat.

"Ilay! Leo, what's happening? Is this an enemy attack? Ilay!" I shouted, but to no avail, as they were already under the effect of that strange power.

Too many things were happening all at once; I couldn't keep count of everything. My mind was still taking a sigh of relief from having escaped the clutches of death just moments earlier.

It rapidly gathered around my body and slowly applied more and more pressure as I was trying to escape from the window. The more I moved my body, the more it concentrated around me.

So I transformed my body, using the power of the hybrid transformation to shoot lightning strikes all around me while strange weapons made out of light carved a path for me to freedom, and in no time I was able to escape from the melting building.

Damn, where is this place? I can't even tell what the fuck it is—everything is such a mess… Wait, no, I need to check on my cousins. With such sharp senses, I can't see how they could get hit by a sudden surprise—

Outside, everything was covered by an extremely thick layer of cloud. Today the clouds were even bigger than usual because, despite coming out from the upper section of the building, there was enough fog for me to not even be able to see where my feet were.

Then a hand emerged from within the building, grabbed me, and slammed me back against the building. It was confusing at first; I didn't know where it came from nor what its purpose was, but I had no time to think about that.

It's useless!

I thought as I used more of my demonic energy to create more floating swords and cut the hand that was holding me back.

"What the hell is going on? This is much more than—" More and more hands were slowly emerging from the sides of the building; the slime they were made of was slowly starting to heat up as time went on.

Not again!

I was able to fly around those giant hands, barely able to avoid them every time. They were clearly trying to prevent me from escaping; they were faster than me and could accelerate faster, so it was extremely hard to avoid them.

One of them somehow managed to grab me, so I used one of the floating blades to cut a hole I used to escape. Immediately after, I saw a couple of hands about to crush me from the sides.

Then, when I least expected it, an invisible hand grabbed me by the collar and pulled me back inside the building, pinning my body to the floor.

I stopped channeling demonic energy into the floating weapons and began discharging as much electric shock all around me as I was sinking into the slimy floor. I was screaming out loud like a rabid dog struggling to free myself, and this caused some of the slime to enter my mouth.

Ugh! Fuck, that's disgusting. I'm at serious risk of drowning to death if things keep going on… Quick, think of a way to escape this hellhole… Think, goddammit, think!

The hands holding me down finally let go of me after enduring lightning for a minute or so. Once free, I stopped releasing electricity out of my body and used my powers to create various sharp blades all around me to cut down the slime around me.

As I got up from the floor, I immediately felt lightheaded and almost fell back to the ground. My powers were slowly fading away, the slime around me was slowly solidifying, and before it could trap me inside that hole, I jumped out and flew away.

I was simply too weak to do anything. My cousins were all expert combatants; they would've surely survived on their own. All I needed to do was to notify my parents of the danger, and they would've easily taken care of…

I managed to somehow successfully land on the ground before my powers completely vanished; by then I couldn't summon them anymore no matter how much I tried. When I turned around, I expected to see the hospital facility being half melted and collapsing, yet it stood firm as every other nearby building.

It had a massive hole on the front wall, which was the hole I made to escape.

An illusion? Yeah, that must be it, an illusion field to not let anyone else see it. What a scary thing! Then it means those events were premeditated! I need to urgently warn Father!.

"Where do you think you're running to after having caused so much trouble, you reckless bastard!" Ilay's voice was filled with rage as he grabbed me by the collar of my shirt the moment he appeared behind me.

"Ilay? What about—"

"He's fine. I don't know what you saw, but you had a delusion. Why didn't you take your pills? You barely can't even tell reality from fiction anymore!" He scolded me, handing me a familiar container.

"What?" I immediately recognized the container; it contained the pills to cure corruption. The same kind the doctor
