After hearing what Lilian had said, Lin Fan fell silent.
Although the events surrounding the Nine-Story Monster Tower didn't seem directly related to him, the presence of these foreign residents always gave him a sense of unease.
He had a gut feeling that he would inevitably cross paths with the Black Maid in the future.
But for now, there was no need to dwell on it too much.
Lin Fan finished organizing all the chests in the room and began preparing to expand the basement.
With more and more people living in the house—especially since he was the only male while the rest were all women—it wasn't exactly appropriate for them to keep sharing a single space.
So, Lin Fan decided to expand the basement and give everyone their own separate rooms.
Initially, he had planned to build a house on the surface. However, after much consideration, the 40x40 area he had simply wasn't enough to construct a proper house.
Rather than cramming everything together on the surface, he figured it would be better to properly renovate the basement instead.
Taking out his pickaxe and shovel, Lin Fan began expanding the basement.
He planned to construct a four-bedroom, one-living room, one-kitchen layout. He knew that the number of people in the household would gradually increase, and providing each person with a private room wasn't realistic—it would be too much work to build.
So instead, Lin Fan decided to only build a separate room for himself and let the others pick from the remaining spaces. After all, there were plenty of beds to go around.
Lin Fan dug out the entire basement, expanding it to 40x40, matching the exact dimensions of his surface land claim.
This land claim had no height restrictions, meaning that as long as everything was built within the 40x40 boundary, no one else could destroy his structures—whether he built upward or downward.
Once the basement was fully expanded, Lin Fan began dividing up the rooms.
First, he determined the size of the living room, choosing a 15x18 area. The living room needed to be spacious since it would hold a lot of things.
Things like crafting tables, furnaces, and chests—Lin Fan planned to store all of them in the living room.
Since the staircase led directly into the living room, placing these items there made sense. That way, they'd be easily accessible as soon as he walked downstairs.
With the living room's size decided, Lin Fan planned to redo the floors, ceiling, and walls.
Cobblestone had a rough and messy texture, which wasn't exactly visually appealing. So, Lin Fan decided to replace everything with smooth stone for a cleaner and more polished look.
Since he planned to live underground permanently, it was worth making the rooms aesthetically pleasing.
During his recent trip to the Nine-Story Monster Tower, Lin Fan had collected a large amount of coal. This meant he had more than enough fuel to smelt cobblestone into smooth stone.
He placed the cobblestone into the furnace, and as soon as he did, the furnace roared to life, its flames burning intensely. The cobblestone inside crackled loudly as the heat spread, causing the surface of the furnace to glow hot.
Since smelting cobblestone into smooth stone would take some time, Lin Fan used this opportunity to decorate the living room.
Previously, when he had been living in the basement, he had simply expanded a small space without any decorations. He didn't even have basic furniture like a sofa or coffee table in his house.
Lin Fan took out some oak planks and crafted a few stairs. He then arranged four of them together to form a 1x4 sofa—one of the most basic furniture designs in Minecraft-style builds.
Lin Fan started by placing two slabs flat on the ground. Then, standing at the edge of the slabs, he placed another slab on top, forming an armrest for the sofa.
Next, he placed two more slabs on each side of the original ones, creating a second armrest on both ends.
After finishing one sofa, Lin Fan mirrored the design and built another one directly across from it.
Then, he placed an oak slab in the middle, forming a coffee table.
With that, the two sofas and coffee table were complete.
Now that the seating area was finished, Lin Fan planned to build a bar counter at the far end of the living room.
He took out some cobblestone, crafted them into cobblestone slabs at the crafting table, and began constructing the counter against the back wall at the second-block height level.
Lining up seven slabs in a row, he created a long bar counter.
There was a three-block gap between the counter and the nearest wall.
Behind the counter, Lin Fan placed two chests and stored the beer and coffee he had collected from the Nine-Story Monster Tower inside.
This way, the bar counter functioned as a self-serve drink station.
However, something was still missing—bar stools.
Lin Fan thought for a moment, then took some oak planks and sticks from his chest and crafted fences.
He also grabbed some wool and arranged it in a straight line at the crafting table to make carpets.
Heading back to the bar, Lin Fan placed the fences on the floor and then placed a wool carpet on top, creating backless bar stools.
The modern design complemented the bar counter perfectly.
Looking at his work, Lin Fan nodded in satisfaction. Just as he was finishing up the living room decorations, the stone in the furnaces had finished smelting.
After all, eight furnaces running at once made quick work of smelting the batch.
Lin Fan retrieved the hot stones from the furnaces. Since they had just finished smelting, they were still scorching to the touch.
But he was in a hurry—he didn't have time to wait for them to cool down. So, despite the heat, he immediately started placing them on the walls, floor, and ceiling.
Since he planned to cover the entire basement in smooth stone, the amount of stone required was massive.
As he worked, the furnaces continued smelting more stone in the background.
After a while, Lin Fan realized that his supply was running low.
So, he called Lilian over and instructed her to take some oak logs to Store No. 1 and trade them for cobblestone at the marketplace.
Lilian, exhausted from a long day, was reluctant to go. But since it was Lin Fan's command, she didn't dare refuse. So, dragging her tired body, she reluctantly set off for the market.
"Be quick, and don't linger on the way," Lin Fan reminded her.
Lilian weakly responded, "Got it…"
Just as she was about to leave, Lin Fan suddenly thought of something and called her back.
"Bring extra oak logs— and trade all the wool from the shop as well."
"Ugh… fineee…" Lilian grumbled, clearly unwilling, as she lazily crawled out of bed and trudged toward the marketplace.
Heloi watched Lilian leave, her eyes filled with envy.
Since she had never left the Nine-Story Monster Tower, she was curious about what the outside world looked like.
Seeing her expression, Lin Fan chuckled.
"You want to go out too?"
Hearing this, Heloi eagerly nodded.
Lin Fan pondered for a moment. He wanted to let Heloi explore, but he was also worried about her safety if she went out alone.
"Alright, you can go pick some flowers within 100 blocks of here. Just don't go too far."
"Okay!" Heloi responded excitedly. Before Lin Fan could even finish speaking, she happily bounced out the door.
