Chapter 112: The Clan Dispute
"Genma, there's no need to belittle yourself like that."
Even though it had been a while since they last met, Koshino still remembered Genma Shiranui's personality.
While he might not be as arrogant as Kakashi, there was still a proud streak running through him.
After all, aside from prodigies like Kakashi, Shisui of the Body Flicker, and Itachi, Genma Shiranui's talent was among the best in Konoha.
From the original storyline, where Genma Shiranui became a pillar of the village, it's clear just how exceptional he was.
Moreover, having become an Anbu at a young age and later serving as the Fourth Hokage's guard during the Third Great Ninja War, Genma Shiranui had every reason to be proud.
It was understandable that he looked down on other ninjas, except for the top talents of his age group.
After all, when someone is exposed to a different circle, it's hard to appreciate those from other circles.
For instance, if Koshino's companions were all the underperformers from the ninja academy,
even if he didn't say it out loud, he would inevitably have some thoughts when they dragged him down during missions.
But the Genma Shiranui Koshino knew was so proud, and now he was belittling himself, which made Koshino's eye twitch involuntarily.
Especially when Genma Shiranui used the word "incompetent," it was surely a beautified version.
Koshino could imagine that other teams' evaluations of the team composed of Genma Shiranui, Ebisu, and Guy were probably much harsher than "incompetent."
So, it wasn't hard to imagine how Genma Shiranui felt when he said those words. After all, anyone would feel some resentment being in a "useless" team.
Then, Koshino chatted with Genma Shiranui, soothing his friend's grievances.
Seeing his long-lost companion finally not looking so gloomy, Koshino felt better and thought to himself:
"Genma, Guy, they're both pillars of Konoha in the original story.
Even Ebisu, who didn't have much of a role in the original plot, becomes the teacher of the Third Hokage's grandson. He must have some real skills, right?"
"A team composed of three pillars from the original story, including the future 'King of Taijutsu,' it's hard to imagine the labels 'incompetent' and 'useless' being attached to such a squad."
"Could it be that the 'incompetent' and 'useless' labels on Genma's team are because of that Genin leader?"
"Judging by Genma's resentment, it seems like it's really because of that Genin leader!"
"Uncle Shikaku's intention in transferring me to this team is something I need to ponder over!"
Clearly, if there's anyone Koshino trusts unconditionally, it's his uncle, Nara Shikaku.
So, even if his friend Genma Shiranui rated this team as having no future, Koshino still felt that the mysterious Genin leader must have some skills, ones that even Shikaku secretly admired.
Otherwise, given Koshino's outstanding performance in the war, Shikaku wouldn't have used the same method as before to transfer Koshino to a relatively safe place to avoid further injuries, right?
Soon after, as Koshino and Genma Shiranui chatted, comforting his resentful friend, Guy and Ebisu came into view.
There might have been some misunderstanding between Koshino and Ebisu.
But Ebisu had a good personality, especially after hearing about the dangerous missions Koshino had undertaken.
The Ebisu from the original story, who was rather arrogant and looked down on the protagonist Uzumaki Naruto, didn't hold a grudge against Koshino for knocking him out.
In fact, during their interactions, Ebisu maintained a humble attitude, hoping to learn more from Koshino.
In just a few minutes of conversation, Koshino not only perfectly integrated into this "incompetent" team but also established a friendship with Ebisu, gaining the acceptance of everyone in the "incompetent" team.
It was a new beginning. However, as the "incompetent" team enjoyed their camaraderie, chatting happily, two figures approached, and Genma Shiranui's face turned grim once again!
"Koshino, you've been on Anbu missions, so you might not know about the dirty dealings in the camp."
"So if any trouble arises, let Ebisu and me handle it!"
"Hmph!"
"The Uchiha Clan and Hyuga Clan people are getting more and more arrogant!"
Genma Shiranui said, as Koshino looked towards the two figures walking ahead. Sure enough, they were from the Uchiha Clan and Hyuga Clan.
Especially when he saw the Uchiha Clan ninja walking alongside the Hyuga Clan ninja, both casting disdainful glances at each other,
Koshino listened to Genma Shiranui's advice and let out a slight cold laugh, thinking to himself, "Ridiculous clan disputes, can't even avoid conflict during wartime?"
"Clearly, they're supposed to be dealing with external enemies together,
yet the laughable Uchiha Clan and Hyuga Clan still have the mind for internal strife,
as if the honor of the Uchiha Clan and Hyuga Clan was built by these two clans' members alone!"
"Fine! Want to play internal strife, do you?"
"I'd like to see what new tricks you have in your internal conflict!"
"If your internal strife ends up dragging innocent people into it, don't blame me for not giving Shisui and Hizashi any face!"
Fixing his gaze on the Uchiha Clan and Hyuga Clan ninjas, Koshino silently retreated behind Guy, seemingly not intending to intervene, but in reality, he was already prepared to counterattack.
On the contrary, the Uchiha Clan ninja and the Hyuga Clan ninja acted as if they hadn't noticed Koshino's presence at all, swaggering right up to Guy, Genma Shiranui, and the others.
With even more disdain, they glanced at Guy and the others. The Uchiha Clan ninja arrogantly said,
"Hey, you bunch of useless people, got nothing better to do? The supplies for our camp have arrived, so you useless lot better come with me. If you delay the mission, I'll hold you accountable!"
"Uchiha Namida, even if the useless squad is full of idlers, why should they take orders from the Uchiha Clan?
Useless squad, listen up, I'm giving you a chance to prove yourselves. Follow our Hyuga Clan squad on a mission!
As long as you behave, hmph, there'll definitely be merit for you!"
"Oh! Hyuga Nichirin, what's this? Competing with us? Are you looking for trouble?"
"Looking for trouble? Uchiha Namida, I think it's you who's provoking!"
As he spoke, Hyuga Nichirin cast a contemptuous glance at Genma Shiranui and sneered,
"Hey, you can speak for the useless squad, right? Now tell me, are you going to follow the Hyuga Clan or the damn Uchiha Clan? Make the right choice, or you'll be in trouble!"
"Hah, do the Hyuga Clan people always speak so presumptuously? What trouble could you cause?"
"Hey! Choose wisely, or you'll have the Uchiha Clan on your back, and that won't be pleasant!"
While Guy, Genma Shiranui, and the others remained silent, Uchiha Namida and Hyuga Nichirin managed to drag the Uchiha Clan and Hyuga Clan's grand disputes onto Koshino's "useless" squad. Truly an unwarranted disaster!
However, Koshino might not be too familiar with Ebisu's character, but he understood Genma Shiranui and Guy very well.
If this had happened in the past, not to mention Guy, even Genma Shiranui would have ignored the Uchiha Clan and Hyuga Clan, directly showing the arrogant Uchiha Namida and Hyuga Nichirin some colors.
After all, the Shiranui clan is also a prominent family in Konoha, and Genma Shiranui is an elite of the new generation within the clan.
If it really came down to a fight, let's see whose backing is stronger!
The Uchiha Clan and Hyuga Clan wouldn't dare to bear the wrath of the Shiranui clan for an arrogant fool, would they?
But in the next second, to Koshino's surprise, not only did Genma Shiranui remain silent, but even Ebisu was silent, clenching his fists tightly, biting his lower lip, completely in a state of silent anger.
Especially Guy, whom Koshino thought would never yield in the face of the Uchiha Clan and Hyuga Clan's grand honor.
Who would have thought, just as Uchiha Namida and Hyuga Nichirin's gaze fell upon him, Guy put on a fawning smile and said something Koshino could never have imagined!
"Um... our squad is actually quite well-staffed!"
