"Go," Kael said to Elysia. "Get the others and take cover. This is gonna get ugly."
Elysia squeezed his hand and backed away, fear in her eyes.
She was not scared, at least not for herself. She was scared for Kael.
Hadn't he proved to her that he could survive anything by now? He'd even survived death itself.
But Kael didn't think he was invincible either. Maybe he had come back from being dead, but it had taken everything in him not to stay there in the comforting darkness.
Now, the man who had helped send him to that darkness had returned.
Kael stepped forward, preparing himself.
At that moment, he realized how exhausted he was. In the last two days, he had died, come back to life, fought an entire army, fought a monster in the sewers, faced off against another shardbearer, and encountered a Royal.
The hits just wouldn't stop coming.
