"Call for the pack doctor. Now."
My voice shook, it shook so much as I cradled Olivia against my chest like she was made of glass.
She felt so small, too still like if I moved wrong, she might shatter into pieces I would never be able to fix.
Keila didn't wait to argue. She rushed out of the room without a word, her footsteps echoing down the hall like distant thunder. I was frozen. My heart was racing but everything around me moved in slow motion.
"My… mum…" Olivia whispered weakly against my neck. Her voice was barely audible, a ghost of a sound.
I didn't waste another second, I tore up the stairs to my room, barreling past my mother who tried to call after me. I didn't respond. I couldn't. I couldn't face her… not until I knew Olivia would survive. Not until Emma returned.
I tried to lay her on the bed, but her tiny arms tightened around me like iron bands. "I want to stay here," she whispered.
