Grandma had held me back when Arata had gone into the garden outside.
Extracting the small velvet box from under her blanket she extended it towards me.
"Here, it's my engagement ring. It's time to propose to her," she had calmly said with a wink.
I had been meaning to do that but I didn't know when the right moment would be. Grandma had always told me she would give me her ring when I found a girl ready to get married. But I had always shrugged it off.
Today, those words have become a reality. I held the ring in my hands and a smile automatically descended on my lips.
My gaze found Ma and Grandma and both of them gave me an affirmative nod.
I knew—that moment was near.
Confidently walking out, I found her exactly in that spot where I had kissed her as Karsten for the first time.
With her eyes closed she was taking in the scent of the roses.
My soul screamed from the surety that this was the moment I had been waiting for.
