Chapter 64 - Chapter Sixty-Four - His Return

In the end, Michael was forced to shell out a gun and gave her a small one, a Sig Sauer P238. Which made her squeal in excitement.

"Oh my goodness. It's so cute! Look!" Amy excitedly took the gun from Michael and showed it to an envious Jill.

Following that, Michael taught her how to switch the safety on the gun, he reiterated it multiple times.

"Alright, I get it, okay? Geez, I'm not stupid." Amy was annoyed, her excitement from earlier had long waned due to Michael's repeated reminders like she's some kind of stupid.

Michael shrugged his shoulders in response. "Just making sure."

"Alright. Help me drive the car inside. We're a bother being here."

With his words, Amy excitedly got into the car with Jill in excitement.

Michael just shook his head, though amused. He understands her excitement since being able to drive a car has now become somewhat of a luxury.

'There's also little to none entertainment. I should try to slowly solve this issue later.' Michael thought, but since it's not a priority right now, he'd probably forget he even had this kind of idea later.

Michael got onto the bike and drove further inside amidst curious looks of people who had been hearing a lot about him.

"So that's Michael? He doesn't look special." Tom whispered to his companions while watching the man riding on the bike drive past them.

A female companion of theirs responded to his words. "He's one of the leaders of this place. So he is special. You better control that mouth of yours, I don't want us getting into trouble with the folks here because of your stupid mouth."

Jack smirked and turned to look at Tom behind him. "What she said."

"Hmmmp!"

Tom snorted in annoyance, but he still listened to her words and kept her words in mind. After all, he doesn't want to go back out there anymore and with no destination in mind.

Michael had just parked Daryl's bike when someone familiar came over.

"Michael."

He turned his head around towards the voice and saw Mary coming over.

"Oh hey, Mary. Has this place been treating you and the others well?" Michael smiled.

"Yeah, the people here are great." Mary smiled before she looked down and saw his bare feet. "And why are you bare foot?"

Michael looked down on his feat and stated it like it was some kind of a casual stroll. "Yeah, my boots needed some maintenance after killing hundreds of walkers on the way here."

".."

Mary didn't have anything to say and just stared at him; the latter also did the same.

"Alright, I'm gonna go over there and help with dinner."

"Yeah, let's continue this talk later."

Mary couldn't bear te uncomfortable silence between them and immediately excused herself and bumped into Amy and Jill on her way out of the conversation.

Mary just smiled at them, before leaving in a hurry.

"What's wrong with her?" Amy looked back at Michael and asked while walking over.

Michael just shrugged his shoulders and took the keys on the bike. "I guess she was shocked after I mentioned I killed hundreds of walkers."

"A hundred what? Now, you're just bragging." Jill laughed, Amy also thought Michael was messing with them and laughed along with her.

Michael raised an eyebrow and responded. "I do not lie. You can ask Rosita or the kids I came with. I tried to rescue a family on the way here, but those wretched bastards were nowhere to be found after I was done with the walkers."

"No way."

Amy and Jill saw the seriousness on his face, and thought that he's not possibly lying to them and were in disbelief.

"Yeah. Anyway, who's currently in charge if Rick and the others are absent?" Michael nodded before immediately steering the conversation into another subject.

"It's Maggie, and she's also pregnant."

The trio were making their way to the cell block and Michael finally realized that there were a lot more unfamiliar faces than he thought.

'Just how many people have they taken in? I wonder if we have enough upkeep to keep feeding these many people'

"Pregnant? Who's the dad?" Michael slightly squinted his eyes while walking up the small stairs leading to Block C.

Amy rolled her eyes at him and answered. "Duh, obviously it's Glenn."

"Alright. Let's go see Maggie since I have a lot of catching up to do during my absence."

Jill took that cue and immediately excused herself from them. "You guys go, I still have work to do."

"Alright, what about you?" Michael gave her a nod before turning his attention to Amy.

"Of course, I'm coming with you. I'm already done with work." Amy and Jill exchanged knowing glances.

"Suit yourself." Entering Block C, Michael was greeted with an amazing sight.

The once gloomy building had now turned a little homely with potted plants of different varieties, full of flowers and scattered inside at every corner.

There are also a couple of shelves filled with random books at the reception like area of the Cell Block.

"Hello everybody, how's it going?" Michael greeted the elderly people who were busy cleaning the place. Some were familiar to him, and some were unknown faces.

"Michael! We were just about to be done here and head out to see you. I'm glad you're back, son." The woman who's now in her 60s immediately came over when she spotted Michael and immediately walked over to hug him in excitement and even gave him a peck on his cheek.

"Glad to be back, Susan. I'm assuming you and the old folks are the ones in charge of house chores?" Michael asked, noticing that the people she's with are around the same age as she is.

"Only for C Block and B Block. The remaining cell blocks are the responsibility of its occupants."

Michael nodded in understanding. "Where did Maggie take the people who came with me?"

"Then you're in the wrong place, they're probably at Block A or B right now, hon." Susan answered in a sweet voice.

"Okay."

Michael immediately turned around and went back outside.

"Michael, Rosita and the others had just settled in their quarters. The kids are over at Cell Block B and Rosita is at Cell Block A. I heard from Jill you were looking for me?"

Michael and Amy had just walked past the fence gate leading to Block A when ahead of them, Maggie appeared and was just leaving the said cell block and encountered them outside.

"Yeah, I wanted to ask you to give me a rundown on what has been happening so far since my absence. Also, congrats on your pregnancy." Michael smiled slightly before giving her a nod.

"Before that, let's get you settled in first before we continue this conversation." Maggie replied, smiling.

They hadn't even left that long yet, but Michael and Amy are heading back to Block C again.

The trio silently returned to Block C, where it's now devoid of people. They stumbled upon the elderly helping in the kitchen on the way back.

"Your room is up the second floor by the tail end."

Making their way inside the cell block, Maggie pointed upstairs before taking a seat on the nearby chair.

"So, Rick and the rest left the farm after a disagreement with my Dad. Then not long after, the farm got overrun by walkers because of some college kids who accidentally stumbled onto the property. We didn't have any place to go after that and came here. Thankfully, Rick still accepted us even when he and my dad left on bad terms." Maggie gave Michael a short summary of what happened so far.

Michael sat opposite of her while Amy went into her quarters on the ground floor, like she was escaping.

"I hear you, but I heard that Rick and the others encountered Shane not long ago? How did it go?" Michael asked, and it made Maggie sighed..

"Amy told you, didn't she?"

"She did, is there something wrong with that?"

Maggie slightly shook her head. "Nothing wrong with that, but it was supposed to be Rick's responsibility to discuss this with you since they wanted to personally hear your decision on this matter."

With his hand on his chin, Michael looked at her. "Alright, but is that all?"

Maggie chuckled, and with a scoff. "They saw Shane riding with Daryl's brother Me-"

"Merle?" Michael didn't let her finish and cut her off. Hearing that name being brought up after long time, he does not know what to feel. Should he be terrified after hearing about him since he basically lied to Daryl to get his trust during their initial encounter?

Technically, the "him" before him had indeed met Merle before.

Unfortunately, they were only fragmented memories, and he does not have any idea if they were actually friends or just acquaintances.

'F*ck, one problem after another.'
