Jax didn't speak. He just stared at Mari.
She was pretty smart. He had to give her that. All these while he had been in love with her without even knowing anything about her other than the fact that she was beautiful and liked to dress crazy. But since she began to live there with him, he had gotten to know her better and love her even more than he had when he first set eyes on her.
"Why aren't you saying anything?" Mari asked when he merely stared at her.
"I didn't realize you expected a response. Were you asking or telling?"
She lifted a hand before he could say anything else or deny it. "Don't bother denying it. I'm not stupid."
"I didn't think you were. But I'm not working for your parents," he said flatly.
