"Yes. My father was non-magical," Severus replied blandly. 'Also a drunk and a wife and child beater,' he added silently.
Lily came back in after helping Petunia put away the leftovers and helping her load the dishwasher. "I suppose we'd better be getting back, Sev as we both have classes tomorrow."
Severus nodded and got up. "Yes, and I still have some essays to correct and grade also." He went over to the staircase and called, "Harry?"
Harry and Dudley appeared at the top of the stairs and Severus said, "We're leaving now."
"Awe…couldn't Harry stay longer, please?" Dudley said.
"Please, Dad. Dudley taught me how to play this wicked game called 'Starcraft' and I'm just now getting the hang of it. Draco's gonna be so jealous when I tell him about it!"
Severus looked at Lily who nodded and then asked, "Is your homework that is due tomorrow all done, Harry?"
"Yes, I had that done last week, Dad."
Severus looked at Petunia who was standing next to Lily. "Would you mind if Harry stayed longer?"
"No, that's fine. It sounds as if they're having fun."
Severus looked at his watch than said, "Well, it is two o'clock now. I will return at 4:45 to pick you up. Alright?"
"Wicked! Thanks, Dad!" Harry exclaimed. "Come on, Big D."
Severus and Lily thanked Petunia for the delicious lunch, said their goodbyes, and walked up the two blocks to the alley where they disapparated to Hogsmeade and then flooed from the Three Broomsticks to Severus quarters at Hogwarts.
Lily sank down on the couch. "Merlin's beard! I'm stuffed!"
"I am too," Severus said. "I think I will eat light tonight." He shook his head. "I could not believe how much food Vernon and Dudley ate!"
"And it's obvious that neither of them gets any exercise either," Lily added. "Vernon has a desk job and then parks himself in front of the telly after work and all weekend and Dudley in front of his computer. Did you give Petunia the diet potion?"
"Yes. She admitted that she's been getting notes about Dudley's weight from the school nurse at Smeltings, but she will probably have to wait until school is out to start him on the potion. I will brew more in case she needs it."
"Maybe Tuney will suggest that they go for a walk in the evenings instead of watching the telly and have Dudley sitting in front of his computer."
"I did advise Tuney to get a meal plan from a dietician too. Once Vernon and Dudley lose the excess weight they will want to keep if off by eating planned meals."
"That's true and Tuney is a good cook so she should be able to make tasty meals without them feeling deprived," Lily added.
"I am going to St. Mungo's early tomorrow to check on Alice and Frank," Severus said. "But I will be back before breakfast starts."
At 4:45 Severus apparated back to Privet Drive to pick up Harry. They apparated to an alley near the Leaky Cauldron and then flooed directly to Severus quarters.
"Dad, I was thinking," Harry said. "Would you mind if Dudley joined us at Witches Moon with the rest of my friends?"
"Dudley does realize there is no electricity and we do not have a computer or television?"
"He knows. He spent a lot of time while we were playing on his computer asking me questions about magic and the wizarding world."
"It is alright with me as long as it is alright with your aunt and uncle."
"Great, Dad thanks!" Harry said, giving Severus a hug. He looked at the mantle clock. "I'd better get back to Ravenclaw. I promised to help Nev revise for Potions. Cedric is helping him revise for Transfiguration and Charms and Nev's helping me revise for Herbology. I'll see you at supper."
Severus smiled as Harry left. He was happy that Harry was able to forgive his aunt, uncle and cousin and not hold a grudge.
"What do you mean You-Know-Who is gone for good, Albus?" James demanded.
"You said he'd be back that it was only a matter of time so what in hell happened that now he's suddenly gone?" Sirius accused
"If you will sit down James, Sirius, I will explain," Albus said.
They seated themselves in the library at Potter Manor. James was sitting on the couch and Sirius in one of the squashy red chairs. Albus sat on the couch opposite James. "Apparently Severus became aware that there was something odd about Harry's scar and took him to a curse specialist. He found that Harry had been …accidently I'm sure …made into a horcrux."
"A what?" James asked.
Albus went on to explain what a horcrux was. "Tom apparently found a reference to it in a book in the Restricted Section of the library while he was a student here before I removed them all. He was a member of the Slug Club and a favorite of Horace's so he asked Horace for more information on the pretext of doing academic research. Of course, Horace fell for it and gladly told him everything he wanted to know on the subject. He made five intentional horcruxes and one accidental one the night you were murdered James." He went on to explain how Voldemort had used four artifacts of the Founders. He shook his head. "Severus claims they were cleansed of the soul pieces by some witch doctor in Africa, but the only way I know to cleanse one is by Fiendfyre or basilisk venom which of course destroys the object too. The only artifact we can trust to be completely safe is the Sword of Gryffindor because it's always been locked in the headmaster's office where Tom couldn't get his hands on it."
"Well, if You-Know-Who is really gone and Snivellus isn't lying through his rotten yellow teeth; will you be disbanding the Order?" Sirius asked.
