Malik
I pace around my dad's office as he dials the emergency number for supernaturals. Finally, someone picks up. "412, what's the emergency?" a lady asks. "Hi, yes, I'd like to report a kidnapping," my dad says. "Okay, and where was the location of the incident?" she asks, clacking on her keyboard. "The Waterford's lake house," he replies. I pace more, growing impatient. "Okay, and about how long have they been gone?" she asks. I rub my hand down my face, getting aggravated. "For maybe about an hour," he says. "Okay, and do we have a description of the kidnapper?" she says, her hands typing away. "Yes, actually, I know who did it. His name is Acheron, the King of the Fire elementals," my dad says. "Unfortunately, this seems like a political matter. We would not be able to intervene, as it is a multi‑species issue. If you like, I can refer you to the council of supernaturals, and you can put in a claim with them. Would you like me to go ahead and transfer you?" she asks. "No! I just want you to find my mate!" I scream. "I'm sorry, sir. I understand that this is very difficult, but sadly, it is not a matter we are equipped to deal with. Now, would you like me to transfer you, or should I hang up?" she says, clearly not in the mood. "Yes, please transfer us, thank you," my dad says. She puts us on hold as the music plays on and on. "Son, I understand that what is happening right now is difficult, but we have to go through the proper channels to get her back. Like she said, this is political, and if we forcefully go in and take her, it could start a full‑on war. You would know that if you had paid attention in your King lessons," he states calmly. "Father, I don't understand how you can be so calm about this. How would you feel if mom got taken?" I say, trying to put it on a level where he might understand my pain. "I would probably be doing the same thing, son," he says. Our call is eventually taken, and we file a complaint with the elemental clan. The guy said they would open an investigation and let us know if they found anything. I don't really understand why they have to find out anything, because I saw with my own eyes her being taken by their King. "Malik, how are you holding up?" Ajax asks, worry clearly written across his face. I force a smile. "I've obviously been better," I say, straining myself not to blow up. The worst part is, I couldn't even call upon my wolf. Every year on the Spirit Moon, we werewolves take precautions and stay indoors, as that is the one night we are rendered useless as werewolves. However, this year, it fell on the end‑of‑year dance, and I just so happened to be taking my mate too. I wasn't going to not go. Although, thinking back, maybe we shouldn't have. If we had just stayed in and had a quiet night together, she might still be here. I feel, as Ajax places his hand on my shoulder in a comforting way, "like I said earlier, Malik, we will get her back," he says. I reluctantly nod my head in agreement.
3 months. It had been 3 months since she was taken, and my wolf and I had had enough. The council had nothing. They could not make any type of political move. Their dumb defense was that it was within Acheron's jurisdiction as king, as she was an elemental, not a werewolf. Didn't they understand she was my mate and that she was the princess of the werewolves and of this country? Wouldn't that make it both jurisdictions? I mean, what was he king of? He certainly was no king of a country. I mean, sure, he'd been the ruler for hundreds of years, but who cares! Isla, Ajax, and I had come up with a plan. We had a friend who was an elemental. She left Acheron's jurisdiction years ago, and she might be willing to help us get Audra back. That way, it's still following the legal rule, and I get my mate back. I call her after lunch and convince her to get on board, and eventually I do. We had a plan set, and now all we had to do was put it into action. I'm coming, Audra. I will save you.
