Chapter 37 - LITTLE DID SHE KNOW

Evelyn woke up the next day, sunlight streaming softly through the curtains, and found her husband, Carlos, beside her. She was instinctively hugging him as she often did, enjoying the warmth and solace his presence provided. As she admired him sleeping peacefully, she couldn't help but smile at the sight of him resting his head on her hand. With a gentle touch, she lifted her hand, intending to smooth the stray strands of hair that had fallen across his forehead.

But just as her fingers hovered near his face, she felt his eyes flutter open. Time seemed to stand still, and her hand froze mid-air. Panicking slightly, she quickly withdrew her hand and jumped out of bed, the heat of embarrassment flushing her cheeks.

"G... Good morning!" she stammered before rushing out of the room in a frantic hustle.

Carlos watched her retreat. He couldn't help but find her flustered antics endearing. Rising from the bed, he walked toward the curtains and pulled them open, revealing a breathtaking view outside through the glass wall. He slipped his hands into the pockets of his pajamas and took a moment to breathe in the beauty of the morning, feeling the lingering warmth of sleep leave his body. Just as he settled into the tranquility, his phone buzzed, breaking the silence.

Evelyn watched as her husband went hurriedly inside his dressing room. Evelyn spotted the old butler, she looked at him with curiosity.

"I suggest you make a very light meal," the butler suggested, his tone hinting at urgency. "I don't think he can wait to eat."

"What's wrong? Is he going on a trip?" Evelyn asked, her heart quickening at the thought.

"I'm afraid I don't know either, forgive me," the butler replied apologetically.

"I'll have to ask him then," she said with determination, rushing to the kitchen to prepare something quick for him.

Just then, Gavin arrived, rushing inside to fetch his boss. He encountered Carlos as he emerged from the dressing room, looking sharp in his tailored suit.

"Carlos!" Evelyn shouted, causing him to stop and turn to her, surprised.

"Here." She handed him the tea she had prepared, a small gesture that held warmth. He accepted it, taking a moment to drink it all.

As he adjusted his tie, her eyes caught the way it was askew. Without thinking, she stepped closer to help him. She could sense the tension in the air; her heart raced.

"Are... you... going on a trip?" she asked softly, her voice barely above a whisper yet still clear enough for him to hear.

He didn't reply, instead, he allowed her to fix his tie while suppressing his ever-growing emotions. Little did she know how her tender touch thrilled him, sending shivers down his spine. The brush of her fingers against his neck made his heart race, as unfamiliar warmth flooded his cheeks.

With a sly pout forming on her lips, Evelyn continued to adjust his tie, lost in her thoughts. If only she realized the effect she had on him. He felt lightheaded, drawn to her in ways he struggled to comprehend. His hand instinctively found its way to her head, his fingers tangling gently in her hair as he bent down to meet her gaze.

"I'm not going on a trip. I will be home tonight," he promised, his voice low and reassuring. He straightened up again, his heart still racing as he playfully patted her head, a gesture that felt strangely intimate and he left left with his secretary

Evelyn's heart fluttered as she twisted her legs and hands together, warmth blossoming in her cheeks. She covered her eyes for a brief moment, overwhelmed by his presence, and then, with a burst of shyness, rushed back into her room, leaving the maids and the butler with their mouths agape at the sudden display of affection and the charged atmosphere between the couple.
