Scarlet's POV
I watched him walk away from me, disappearing into the darkness of the hall, and I felt my heart break. Angry, frustrated, and shattered, I went to the other side of the house where my room was and collapsed on the bed, crying for hours. Eventually, the tears dried, but the ache remained. I told myself that I would leave this house in the morning, no matter the danger. I would leave him behind.
But before the first light of dawn, I could not bear it any longer. I slipped out of my room with no clear destination in mind and found myself standing in front of his door. My hand reached out and turned the knob, and there he was, asleep in his bed.
I climbed into his bed quietly, my body trembling. I pressed myself against his chest, resting my head on his shoulder.
A moment later, his arm came around my waist, pulling me closer. He turned towards me, his golden eyes open now, burning into mine. "You are so stubborn," he whispered.
