Chapter 138 - Anticipation

The wizard at the desk rubbed his eyes blearily, as if just waking from a nap.

He looked between the two of them, blinking. "Just the two of you?"

"Our father is already queuing up," Vizet replied, shaking his head.

The wizard shrugged, but his tone warmed slightly. "Applying for a wizard passport, huh? Planning a bit of travel?"

He pointed down a long corridor. "Head that way — take the golden grille elevators. Department of International Magical Co-operation, fifth floor."

"Thank you," Vizet said.

The two wove through the gently bustling crowd toward the elevators. Just as they approached, one arrived with a soft ding and its golden gate slid open.

They had barely stepped inside when others spotted it — and within seconds, people came rushing in from all directions.

What had been a roomy space became stiflingly crowded. Vizet and Luna were pressed into a corner, standing side by side.

Vizet tried shifting outward, angling his body to shield Luna and give her as much space as he could manage. Even so, their arms brushed together with every jolt of the elevator.

Thankfully, the ride wasn't long. At each stop, people poured out, and the cramped space gradually opened up.

As the elevator finally emptied, Vizet moved closer to Luna's side and exhaled in relief. He wiped the sweat from his forehead.

"Hoo..." Luna let out a soft breath. Her fair face was tinged with a delicate cherry-blossom pink again.

"Maybe it was too crowded. You didn't get suffocated, did you?" Vizet asked gently. "Next time, you should come with Mr. Lovegood. He might have made a better shield than me."

"Ah-choo!"

Somewhere far below, Xenophilius — still waiting in line — sneezed loudly.

He blinked and looked around suspiciously. "Did that old Jellybean poison the Ministry's air circulation system? This is serious! I have to write down this conspiracy before I forget it..."

"No, I'm fine. Not crowded at all," Luna said softly, shaking her head.

She caught a faint whiff of lavender — quiet and elegant — like the warm sun and gentle winter breeze mingling in a memory. The subtle blush on her face wasn't from the elevator ride; it was the kind of warmth felt when standing beneath sunlight one enjoys.

"Fifth floor, Department of International Magical Co-operation," the cold female voice echoed through the elevator. "Including the International Magical Trade Standards Body, the International Magical Office of Law, the British Branch of the International Confederation of Wizards, and the International Wizarding Tourism Office..."

As the doors opened, Vizet and Luna stepped into a polished corridor.

A soft whizzing sound overhead drew their attention — several enchanted paper airplanes flew above their heads, circling once before zipping into an open doorway further ahead.

The magic of magic, Vizet thought, lies in the way even the ordinary becomes luminous.

A simple doorway might hold an entirely different world within — just like the one they approached now: the International Wizarding Tourism Office.

Despite being labeled an "office," the space beyond was a bright and inviting hall. Dozens of paper airplanes hovered along the ceiling like lazy butterflies. A few witches and wizards sat in padded chairs along the wall, waiting patiently.

Luna raised her hand in a wave — she had already spotted her father.

Xenophilius stood and took her hand, looking her over carefully. "You didn't run into any trouble, did you?"

Luna shook her head, eyes gleaming. "Let me show you my wand. It's beautiful — just like a unicorn's horn."

Xenophilius's face lit up. "Of course! As beautiful as my baby!"

She added with a smile, "Vizet helped me choose it."

Xenophilius turned to Vizet, brows lifting. "You've been working with... Mr. Ollivander?"

Vizet nodded. "He's taken good care of me — he's shared a lot of his experience."

"Experience?" Xenophilius blinked. "Wait… does that mean he's planning to train you?"

Vizet glanced around and lowered his voice. "He mentioned he might consider it — after I graduate."

Xenophilius drew a slow breath, then stared at him in astonishment. "How many surprises are you hiding from me, exactly...?"

------------------------------

Strictly speaking, wizards traveling abroad don't necessarily need a wizard passport.

However, without one, they're not eligible for official magical protection. If they encounter danger, they're entirely on their own.

Take Knockturn Alley, for instance — most of the wizards living there are dark witches and wizards who fled abroad without legal documentation. When caught by Aurors, they can be imprisoned on the spot — no interrogation, no formalities.

All things considered, holding a wizard passport serves as an additional layer of security — and that was precisely Xenophilius's intention.

While waiting in line, Vizet pulled out his notebook and began reviewing a list of detailed plans he'd written across the school year.

With the term now behind him, it was time to assess what had been completed — and what lay ahead.

"Transfiguration magic…" he murmured, running his finger across the neat heading in his notes.

Not only had he kept up with the regular coursework, he'd also read through The Theory of Metamorphosis and Transformation on his own — extracting deep insights along the way.

Yet for all he'd gained, he knew that Transfiguration — especially theoretical — always offered more. Every rereading brought fresh understanding.

I can't wait until next year… he thought. If I begin Animagus practice, maybe Professor McGonagall will approve access to the restricted section…

He marked a check next to this year's Transfiguration objectives and jotted down a new goal: begin early Animagus research and, if possible, master the transformation.

One by one, he reviewed his progress in Potions, Charms, and the other core subjects. Satisfied with his advancement, he sketched out corresponding expectations for the coming year.

"Defense Against the Dark Arts…" A faint smile crept onto Vizet's face.

Beyond the core material, he'd already started exploring some more complex forms of dark magic. Powerful, yes — but not suited for casual or public use.

The Memory Charm, he noted, definitely needs to go on next year's core list.

Turning back to the first page of his notebook, he wrote the goal in large, prominent script: Master the Memory Charm — precise modification, not deletion.

It wasn't about erasing memories wholesale. That sort of tampering raised suspicion. The real value lay in altering or overlaying memory in such a subtle way that it passed entirely unnoticed.

Given that he possessed the Eye of Insight — and carried the silent responsibilities of a guardian — his power might still be growing, but his secrets had to remain protected.

Until I'm strong enough, discretion is everything.

Inexact memory spells could backfire, raising more questions than they solved. That was a risk he couldn't afford.

All things considered, the Memory Charm alone warranted deeper study and exploration — it was layered, delicate, and full of untapped potential.

"In that case, next year's going to be intense," Vizet said under his breath, flipping back through his notes with renewed purpose.

In Transfiguration, Animagus transformation would become his next major pursuit.

In Charms, mastering memory modification — cleanly, precisely, and without trace — would be his target.

In Potions, he was already learning under a true master: Snape. As long as he continued attending private lessons, the knowledge would follow naturally…
