Chapter 78 - Gas

The next day, Barry and the team left for the German High Command after saying their farewell to the townsfolk, who personally came to the village's gate to wish them good luck.

The German headquarters was not far from the village, so the group's journey was short.

Now, outside the German High Command, the group is trying to figure out how to get inside the high command without alerting the guards.

"What do you guys need to get inside?" Barry asks.

Steve looks at Barry, unsure how Barry can help in this situation but still decides to point out a few things that could help the group get in the high command without any suspicion, such as some German uniforms for the men, and a nice dress for Diana, and some invitation cards to get in.

"Wait right here," Barry says with a smile and disappears in the Flash, startling the group once again. No matter how many times they have seen Barry disappear, they can never get used to it. Except for Diana, she was completely unfazed by it.

"Where did he go?" Sameer, the short brown man of the group, asks, but before the others could answer, Barry is back with a handful of things.

His arrival scares the living hell out of the group once again while Diana still remains calm. As a warrior princess, it should be second nature for her to keep calm in any situation.

German uniforms for him, Steve, and Charlie, and normal servant uniforms for Sameer and the Chief. He could have also gotten them German uniforms, but the strong racial prejudice of this era would easily blow up their cover if the Germans saw a brown man and a native American man wearing high-ranking German officer uniforms.

As for Diana, Barry found a nice, elegant dress inside the High Command. There were a lot of female guests with spare clothing, so it was not hard to find one that would suit Diana. He also snatched invitation cards from unsuspecting guests who were still waiting for their turn.

"Sir Allen, you are amazing," Sameer says as he picks up the servant uniform.

"I will stay here and keep watch. Someone has to stay here," the chief says. He has no interest in playing spy and risking his life.

"Me too. I will stay here and keep the chief company, also provide you guys cover from outside if things go wrong." Charlie says. The two uniforms that Barry brought from them go to waste, but it doesn't matter right now.

Barry dons the German uniform and looks incredible in it. Well, he looks incredible in almost anything he wears.

Seeing Barry change into the uniform in an instant surprises the group once again, but they are quickly getting used to this magical man. In their eyes, Barry seems more magical than the demigoddesses beside them.

Steve, Diana, and Sameer changed into their respective dress as well before stealing a vehicle from one of the passersby. Diana, Steve, and Sameer go as one group, Sameer acting as their designated driver.

As for Barry, he really doesn't need anyone to escort him inside. He can just run in without being noticed by anyone.

Now inside the German High Command, Barry, dressed up as a high-ranking German officer, gets a lot of attention from the ladies.

Some of them approach him and ask him for a dance, which he happily obliges. These women were all beautiful, and Barry couldn't help but enjoy his time here.

Yes, he is in the middle of a war-torn country, enjoying a dance with one of the noble ladies, but you can't fault the guy. What can he do other than be an active observer?

If things go really bad, he will step in, but if things remain calm as it is now, his best course of action would be the very thing he is doing. Don't do anything that would completely change the course of history.

So Barry dances, staring into the beautiful lady's eyes, who can help but fall for Barry's handsome charm. The poor girl will live the rest of her life searching for him, and never succeed.

"Thank you for the dance, my lady," Barry says and takes his leave. The lady tries to call him to ask his name, but he uses the crowd and disappears right before her eyes.

Barry walks around and sees Steve chatting up some woman wearing a prosthetic mask while Diana is heading directly towards Ludendorff to finish him off.

Barry decides to let Diana take the reins and do whatever she wants because he is an outsider and it's not his place to lecture Diana about the rights and wrongs.

Wanting to explore more, Barry starts looking around the high command to case the whole surrounding, a habit he built after becoming the Flash.

Barry arrives at the lowest level of the high command and finds a large underground storage facility, guarded by German soldiers.

Barry doesn't bother with them and just phases through the wall and super speed without being noticed.

Now inside the storage, Barry sees multiple grey colored gas cylinders marked with a yellow cross stacked on top of each other.

'Mustard Gas...' Barry murmurs, seeing them. He recalls Germans using Mustard Gas as a way of chemical warfare.

Barry then recalls seeing multiple cannons on top of the high command with similar gas canisters.

Realizing what the Germans could be planning, Barry immediately runs towards the towers of the high command and sees multiple active cannons, pointed towards multiple villages that are all around the High Command.

He sees some German soldiers loading the cannons.

'I can't allow this.' It was time for Barry to step in.
