Just above it, a dark, roiling cloud hovered. Purple lightning danced within its depths, crackling silently, casting eerie flashes of light over the strange river.
"Looks unstable," Aeri Fan said, eyeing the storm.
But the piece of robe didn't pause—it continued gliding forward, moving towards the stream.
"We follow," Victor said. "We don't have a choice."
Mirael was the first to leap from one ridge to the next. Her body twisted mid-air as she attempted to compensate for the reversed gravity flow. But the moment she reached the edge and launched forward toward the floating stream—
"WATCH OUT!"
Victor's warning came too late.
A massive blur surged down from above. In the blink of an eye, a monstrous beast, its form sleek like a panther but with massive wings and eyes that glowed red, swooped down and *slapped* Mirael with one of its claws.
The sound was deafening.
