The elder who had been completely healed from Victor's spit looked at his palms and arms with an expression teetering between awe and revulsion.
"You... used spit to do this?"
Victor shrugged casually. "Dragon pond of tears. Long story."
Tarkos stood beside the elder, arms folded, face grim. "Don't mistake this kindness for mercy."
The elder turned slowly and looked at Tarkos, just as a cold pulse surged through his dantian. He collapsed to one knee, clutching his abdomen.
"What... what did you do to me?"
Tarkos crouched, lifting the elder's chin with two fingers. "Soul-devouring worm. If you follow instructions, you live. If you try to betray us, it devours your dantian and leaves you as little more than a crippled shell."
