"What happened? Are… are we dead?" Lyra asked, her voice barely above a whisper as she slowly looked around, eyes wide with uncertainty. Everything was pitch black, as though the world itself had been swallowed whole.
"Why is everywhere so dark? Is this hell? Are we dead?" Raze echoed, spinning in place as he tried to make sense of the void surrounding them. His breath caught when Max, clutching his chest from a strange thump, looked up—and froze.
"He… he is here."
"He is here? Who is?" Greg asked, squinting into the darkness just before a colossal wave of swirling shadows unfurled above them, cloaking the entire arena in a churning sea of black.
The massive goo from the hawk? Gone. The searing heat of death? Vanished. Everyone who had been moments from doom now stood unscathed—saved by an overwhelming, mysterious power.
