The sweet, intoxicating scent of my mate, Zendaya, filled my nostrils, a comforting anchor. Her peaceful sleep was a rare moment of tranquility in a world rapidly unraveling. Then, Enzo's voice ripped through the mind-link. "Alpha."
"What is it?" I snarled, anger simmering. Enzo had been scarce, almost invisible, since the reveal of his act of betrayal. "Diana is back," he stated, cutting the link. What?! My blood ran cold. Diana? Back? And I hadn't been informed? Fury propelled me from the bed. I splashed water on my face, not caring for my appearance.
Even before reaching my office, a familiar, potent scent hit me—undeniably Diana's. Its sudden reappearance sent a jolt of unease. She was already there, seated. The moment her eyes met mine, she sprang up, bowing, then closed the distance, her arms wrapping around me in a familiar embrace.
