One day, a woman entered the meditation room. She used her sleeve to cover her face, and the monk, thinking she was a ghost, ignored her.
But the woman came every day, and finally the monk could not hold back and asked, "Who are you?" Upon hearing this, the woman lowered her sleeve, revealing a face without a mouth, shocking the monk.
A high-ranking monk heard about it and came to the meditation room to investigate. He found that in the scripture copied by the monk, the word '如' (meaning 'like' in 'Great Sun Tathagata') was missing the right side '口' (meaning 'mouth'), making it 'female without a mouth'. Realizing the monk had written the word incorrectly, the character transformed into a spirit to tell the monk about his mistake.
