Once they got to the pound, Eliza couldn't believe where they were. Eliza said, "Ugh. For months, I've avoided these guys. One week with you and I'm busted." Ace said, "No dog has ever come out of here." Randy looked out the window and said, "Oh, come on, it can't be that bad." Randy looked around and saw all the equipment that the animal control officers used. Then they heard a growling sound coming from the vents. Randy, Eliza, and Ace all said at the same time, "What was that?" The animal control officers then opened the doors, and Randy jumped out of the truck. Randy said, "Run, guys, run." Eliza and Ace also made a run for it, but Randy accidentally bumped into Abby, the manager of the place, and knocked her down while the animal control officers grabbed Ace and Eliza. Abby said, "Ah, get this mongrel off of me." Abby's dog, Duke, then walked up to Randy and said, "You've made my master very unhappy. And when she's not happy, I'm not happy." Horace said, "Hey, boss. You'll never believe who we caught. The Great Muttician."
Abby took a look at Eliza and said, "A golden retriever? Barely worth the time. Her skills might make her a rare breed, but still. Her friend, on the other hand." Abby took a good look at Randy and said, "I've never seen fur like this. Such great color for an Alaskan Malamute. Let me look at that leg, though." Abby took Randy's bandages off his leg because he figured it was fine, since he ran fast. Abby said, "Looks like this one's leg has recovered." Abby stood back up and thought about what to do with them.
Abby snapped her fingers and said, "Put them in the salon." Bob grabbed Randy, who first opened the door to the salon, and threw him in. Bob then slammed the door, and Randy got up against it to get out, but couldn't. Then a metal arm descended, grabbed Randy, and lifted him into the air. A couple of scrub brushes then scrubbed soap all over him, and he got sprayed with water from hoses. Another metal arm then grabbed Randy's tongue so he would open his mouth, and another metal arm could brush his teeth. When he was finished, he sat down in a chair, and they took his picture. The same thing happened to Eliza and Ace, and Abby sent the images of their new arrivals to Randy's Uncle Max, since he owned the place. The animal control officers then placed Randy, Eliza, and Ace in the dog room and locked them in a cage with the other dogs until someone came to claim or adopt them.
Once they were there, one of the dogs recognized Eliza. Winnie, the poodle, said, "It can't be. Muttician?" Randy said, "And Randy Wolf and Ace. We're a team." Winnie said, "I thought you worked alone." Eliza said, "It's complicated." Ace knocked a pebble into a vent on the ground and asked, "Where does this go?" Winnie said, "Wait, no." When Ace's pebble hit the bottom, there was a giant roar, and a bunch of air came out of the vent. Winnie said, "That's where the dog-eating dungeon monster lives. But as long as we stay up here, we're safe. Anyway, that's Rose, the Collie. She had a family, but her family moved away, accidentally left her behind, and never came back for her. Jamie, the Great Dane, and Evan, the Bearded Collie. They lived in the junkyard their entire lives until animal control officers found them and brought them here. Joey, the Labrador puppy, could have had a family, but he escaped the pet store and got caught by animal control after hiding from the werewolves. Danny, the Dalmatian, was one of the famous 101. Now all his brothers and sisters are still together, but he got caught by animal control, and they're waiting for the owner to arrive. That's Judy, the Old English Sheepdog, and Baxter, the Sheepdog. They both grew up in the wilderness until the animal control officers found them and brought them here." Judy said, "Make yourselves at home." Randy said, "What? No, I have to get out and get home. My family is worried sick about me. If I make this my new home, they'll think I ran away." Rose said, "Sorry, no dog ever gets out of here. Believe us, we've tried."
The dogs then told Randy, Eliza, and Ace about all their attempts to break out of the joint, but none had been successful. They first attempted to steal one of the animal control officers' trucks, but were stopped and caught again. They tried sneaking out in the middle of the night, but they set off the alarm, and Abby and Duke caught them. They even tried hitching a ride in the back of the animal control officers' trucks, but they were all caught again and sent back to the pound when they attempted to escape from the trucks. Randy said, "Well, obviously, you've never worked with us." Eliza said, "Give me 24 hours, I'll find a way."
Meanwhile, Randy's Uncle Max retrieved the photos of the recently captured dogs. He saw pictures of all the dogs, including Eliza and Ace, on his tablet. He skimmed through all the images by sliding his screen, and when he slid it one more time, he saw a picture of Randy. Max said, "Randy?" Randy got in Anna's limo and said, "Get me to the pound." The limo driver drove Max to the pound.
Meanwhile, Randy, Eliza, and Ace were making the best of things. Eliza and Ace played tic-tac-toe with their paw prints, and Randy was looking at the moonstone ring, because it reminded him of his family. While they were dealing, Max arrived at the pound and spoke to Abby since he was the owner and she was the manager. Abby then took Max to their latest arrivals, and when Max walked in, Randy recognized him. Randy walked up to him with a smile and said, "Uncle Max?" Eliza got confused and said, "Uncle?" Rose sniffed Max's scent and said, "The black wolf." Randy jumped up in excitement and said, "Uncle, uncle." Max said, "Yes, that's the one." Anna snapped her fingers and pointed at Randy. Duke then grabbed Randy's ear with his mouth and walked him into a kennel.
Randy's Uncle Max picked up the carrier and carried Randy to the hall. Abby then walked into a metal door. Max said, "Go on in. I need a minute." Abby didn't see the harm in that, so she walked into the room and closed the door behind her. When she was gone, Max let Randy out of his kennel and spoke to him. Max said, "You have the moonstone ring. Right?" Randy smiled and nodded. Max then picked up Randy and said, "Well, where is it?" Randy showed his Uncle Max where he was keeping the ring, and Max took it and dropped Randy. Then he put it on his finger. Randy said, "You won't believe how we got it. And it wasn't just me, it was my friend, Eliza, too. Wait, I can't leave my friends, Eliza and Ace." Max said, "Don't worry, you won't. You can stay here with them." Randy said, "What? But I have to come home. I bet Mom is worried about me." Max said, "She is, but I don't care. Now with the moonstone ring and you and your father out of the way, all I have to do is get rid of your mom somehow, and I'm the leader of the pack." Max then knocked on the metal door and said, "You're right. The purple Alaskan Malamute is too valuable to lose. Keep it."
Abby came out of the room, put Randy back in the carrier, and carried him back to his cage. Then Abby let Randy out of his carrier and locked him back in the cage with the other dogs. Randy sadly said, "He left me. I can't believe he left me." Randy turned around, and the other dogs saw that he looked sad. Eliza walked up to Randy, confused. Eliza asked, "How is your uncle a werewolf?" Randy thought about how to explain it and said, "Um." Jamie said, "This must be one of those awkward moments." Eliza asked, "Who are you? Or rather, what are you?" Randy said, "Eliza. I tried to tell you." Eliza started to cry and said, "I don't understand." Randy said, "I was born a werewolf. And I've only been one for a few days. That's why when we met, I told you not to call me a dog, because I told you I was a human, but you didn't believe me. I even tried to tell you that you should trust me because of the werewolf oath: the strength of the wolf is the pack. But I was afraid if I did, you'd figure it out and judge me like you did my family."
Eliza said, "Oh my gosh, it all makes sense. That's why you acted so weird, defended the werewolves from my comments, and had no idea how to be a dog." Ace said, "And why that ring glowed when he got near it, and why he has a werewolf hunter as an enemy." Randy said, "Guys, it's still me inside." Eliza cried and said, "You lied to us. Maybe that's why your uncle left you here, because your family doesn't want you." Randy said, "No, Eliza. My mom is worried sick about it. It's my uncle and cousins who don't like me. My uncle wants to be the leader of the pack. So he took the moonstone ring and left." Ace said, "And I don't blame him." Randy said, "Ace." Ace cried and said, "Stay away from us." Eliza and Ace ran into a corner, and the other dogs scowled at Randy. Danny said, "Tsk-tsk-tsk."
