Chapter 172 - Lands of Chalk [2]

Despite the fact that most thought that the land of Chalk was merely a wasteland, there still existed grand buildings serving as his palace. Of course, no other gods were allowed in. It was his center of power.

The palace was so massive that it took up most of the horizon. Such a size was necessary to accommodate immense elementals that loyally served Chrunus. The palace was pure white, made of the same chalk as the rest of the divine realm.

A dark smoke billowed around it; it formed a wall of Chaos that would prevent any of the lesser gods from accessing the seat of power. His eyes dimmed for a moment before he stepped through the dark mists.

While for anyone else, they would be fatal, for him, they were a gentle summer breeze. Most would be blinded, and some would perish instantly; desintegrated from the very existence. But for the Chaos Elementals and him, it was perfection of the highest order.

A fortress inaccessible to all but his soldiers; how wonderful it was that he was one who was blessed, even Fortuna, who forced him to dance to her tune, got made into a glorified servant. He truly was thankful to Chaos that buffed him.

With a heavy step, he passed a large archway made of chalk and obsidian. The Palace lacked normal gates or entrances, as they were useless for such a well-defended palace. The insides, unlike the chalky wasteland that spread outside, were made of Marble and obsidian.

While Chrunus was the supreme god, he enjoyed opulence as a courtesy of his grand position. It was one of many reasons that he had oppressed lesser gods as much as he did. They did not deserve the luxuries of godhood.

They were always meant to be servants, nothing more. It was his own destiny to be chosen as one true god. "The Chaos itself made me its god. Others were found lacking." His mists swirled wildly.

He passed the obsidian halls, and in the distance, he noticed one of his loyal Chaos Elementals. It was the guardian of his lab despite merely being Greater Chaos.

"Caramas, Reports?" Chrunus stared at the elemental, while for the lesser gods, he was a tyrant; the same couldn't be said for his elementals. They were a gift of the very Chaos that blessed him.

While they were his servants, they deserved to be treated on a completely different level than the false gods.

"None, my lord, we are still working to uncover Fortuna's treacherous plot." Caramas churned, his cloud-like body changing erratically.

He had never trusted her despite her belief that he was a fool who would do so. He did not know what had happened in the mortal world, but it gave her hope. However, it was too late; once they were forced to descend, they would never be able to survive without their followers.

In a way, godhood was a curse for everyone but him; yet it was only natural, he was one true god. His followers made sure that the rest were merely seen as his messengers and not actual gods.

It took him a long time to reeducate them, but in the end he was successful. "Follow me." Chrunus waved for Caramas to follow inside the lab.

Soon he arrived in a large room, unlike what some would expect of the lab it was empty except for some minor elementals, with only a large crystal orb in the middle. This was his ticket to finally get rid of Fortuna's necessity.

"How are the tests going?" Chrunus stared at the orb. So many elementals worked and poured their very existence into the creation of the orb. His dark hand glided down the massive orb.

"Very well, my Lord! If our theory is correct, you will soon be able to see the entire world even if the fools lack your blessing. We merely need enough Chaos to kickstart its operation. After that, it will draw the power it needs from the Lands of Chalk."

Chrunus grinned, his form erupted in dark mist of chaos once again. "Wonderful news. Soon I will be able to strip Fortuna of her influence and at long last become only god of this world." A wry smirk played on his non-existent lips. His armor-like skin cracked and reshaped.

Fortuna had her uses, but it would soon be over. Dark mists danced around his hand before they entered and converged inside the orb. The clear crystal was corrupted. The storm raged inside, threatening to crack the fragile crystalline structure.

The room shook as the god poured an immense amount of power, capable of easily obliterating a large country into a small container. The Crystal shuddered, yet it held firm. Then Chrunus channeled even more chaos energy.

The crystal held firm, while it looked as if it was about to break it instead contained the immense power. Soon, the energies subided; instead of dark, cloudy, and stormy mists that churned like a thick stew, they were replaced by a clear water-like substance.

"It worked!" Chrunus shouted with joy. He moved his hands away from the orb as the water rippled inside, slowly gaining color. After a mere moment, it showed the mortal world.

"My lord, your power truly is grand to be able to power such an instrument!" Caramas exclaimed, it's voice a rumble. A sense of pride swelled in Chrunus. Caramas was his family, one of his trusted Elementals, and so his words really sang to him.

The Elementals weren't the parasites; they were an extension of him. The image inside the orb shifted, the ripple spread before it revealed the legions of silver that Fortuna mentioned.

However, instead of destroying Iguva's empire like Fortuna suggested, they were stationed around one of the border fortresses that belonged to Iguva.

'This cannot be it, they are still too weak. Perhaps on the level of Medium Chaos Elemental'

While their numbers and power were impressive for the mortals, they still could not hold a candle to the god of chaos. This did not interest him; he wished to find whatever it was that granted Fortuna the hope.
