Haisley could feel the change, especially when she realized that many pairs of eyes were now on them. The stares from students, lecturers, even campus staff who knew them, or more precisely, knew Lucas as the professor's son and the young CEO heir to a renowned company, were all filled with curiosity.
"What's wrong?" Haisley wondered. "Is it Lucas's arm around my waist that's making them all look at me like that?"
Whispers began to surface.
"Is that his wife? Seriously? That one?"
"She's pretty, but kind of plain compared to him."
"They probably got married because of an arranged marriage."
"Hmm, but don't they look kinda good together?"
"Good together? Lucas seems way too cold for someone as gentle as her."
Haisley bit her lower lip. She knew those comments should've been easy to ignore, just pointless murmurs from strangers. But still, the words stung. Especially with her mind still a mess from the tension that hadn't yet eased between her and Lucas.
