Chapter 39 - 39. Shackled and Suppressed

Rhia and Armaros went to Elgaf as they had been told by the Guild Master as the man was ready with paperwork as he gave information to Rhia as she went through it before she smiled to herself. Then she gently took Armaros's card and then updated it, making him and official B rank Adventurer.

"I have to say that I was surprised when the guild master told me about it. I do not know what had happened at the village, but I trust that you must've done something for you to be rewarded as such." Elgaf said with a smile as he looked at him.

"I guess." Armaros said with a shrug of his shoulders as he looked at his Adventurers card.

'A B rank huh. Quite the jump.' Armaros thought to himself as he put the card in its place as he looked at the two adults.

"Now, as a B rank Adventurer, you can choose to do B rank quests. But still, I think it would be best if you started with C rank first before going to B rank, since the quests will be quite different from usual." Elgaf said to him with a thoughtful look.

"He is right Armaros. The B and C rank quests are much different than D rank quests that are assigned to the Guild. I think you should first start with C rank to get used to it and the change in difficulty before changing to B rank. It will be safe and much more profitable for you in the long run, as you won't be taken by surprise." Rhia said to him with a smile as she looked at him.

"I guess you are right. Alright, I don't mind doing C rank quests first." Armaros said with a shrug as she smiled at his words.

"Wonderful. I'm happy that you are doing it cautiously. But for the time being, I think you should do quests that are around the town, especially since the last quest had become much more dangerous than the category it had been put in." Rhia said to him as she remembered how shocked she was when they had first come.

"I agree. I'll probably take quests near the town before taking quests that are away from here." Armaros said as the two nodded.

"Your sudden promotion to B rank will cause quite the stir when the other Adventurers find out. We are not going to announce your promotion since there is no need for that, but they will know after they see you taking higher ranked quests." Elgaf said to him as Armaros nodded.

"I don't mind it. Thanks for doing the work for me to advance. I will go and check the quests." Armaros said to him as he nodded.

"I'll come with you and guide you through it. Have a good day sir Elgaf." Rhia said as she gave a bow to him.

"Have a good day to you too." Elgaf said as he watched the two leave the room as he looked at the door.

'A D-rank who became a B-rank after the village attack. We don't know what attacked him, well it is believed to be monsters or bandits, but I am not sure about it. But I need to keep an eye on the child like the guild master said, whatever reason he might have to tell me to do so.' Elgaf thought to himself as he hummed and went to the table to sort some paperwork.

"I had taken this job because it was stable and doesn't have much excitement, but I suppose interesting things happen from time to time." Elgaf said with a small smile on his face.

Armaros stood in front of Rhia's place as she went through some C rank quests before she placed one in front of him as he grabbed it and read it.

"This is a simple quest. You have to help a noble house in their chore." Rhia said to him with a smile.

Armaros blinked when he read the quest as it was asking for an adventurer to come to the nobles area and move some of their stuff.

"Why is this C rank? And don't the nobles have their own servants to do this?" Armaros asked her in confusion.

"Well, this is a quest from the nobles so it would have more money, and the fact that it was the nobles who have given it makes it have more value. As for them having servants, well the servants they have might not be able to do more physically demanding chores like moving heavy things, and usually they would have an adventurer do so." Rhia said to him as he frowned at the quest.

'On one hand it is very basic, so I don't have much of a reason to take it. On the other hand, this will give me an excuse to go to the nobles district since I haven't been there.' Armaros thought to himself as he mentally weighed the options.

After a few moments of contemplation, he decided to accept the quest as it is simple and safe, and with his strength, he is sure that he will be able to complete it quite easily.

"Alright, I will take it." Armaros said to her as she smiled.

"Okay." Rhia said simply as she nodded to him.

"Right." Armaros said as he put the pamplet in his pocket before he left the guild building.

He then made a beeline towards the nobles district. The entire town of Xerxia can be divided into the nobles district and the commoners district. The town is in a circular shape and divided into two rings, with the nobles in the inner ring and the commoners in the outer ring.

This is a common way of creating a barrier between the two classes and also give more protection to the nobles who stay in towns as they are in the inner part of thet town. There are also only three doors by which one can exit and enter the nobles district, with the only other option being to climb the wall which separates the district that has guards patrolling it.

He has never set foot in the nobles district, but now that he has a reason to, he decided to take he quest. He can go into the nobles district and also complete the quest he needs to do.

He walked through the gate without any incident as people can freely walk into the nobles district. But commoners rarely do so unless they have business to attend to in there. The difference in social status is more than enough of a reason for commoners and nobles to stay in their own places, and he had only ever seen a few nobles leave their homes, and usually they are in carriages even if they get out of the town.

He didn't pay much notice to the nobles, and even if they were talking about rank, then he is already at a higher rank then then due to the virtue of his blood. Not that he is going to be airing that information for everyone to know anyway.

He also noticed that the homes in the nobles district are made from stones and are much larger than the commoners. While the number of nobles are lesser in comparison to the commoners, they have wealth that the commoners don't have which separates them.

Their houses can be considered small mansions since they are nobles who are living in a town instead of on their own territory or in a city or the capital. He made sure that he had the directions as he reached the house that was designated as the place for his quest as he saw the guards standing on either side of the gate.

"Excuse me, is this the house which had put his commision?" Armaros asked as he showed the pamplet.

The guard on his right took the pamplet and read it before he gave it back.

"Yes, this is the place. Go inside and find one of the servants, they will tell you what to do." The guard said as he opened the gates.

"Alright, thank you." Armaros said politely as he walked inside.

There is a fairly decent sized mansion surrounded by a garden and some servants who were tending to it as he went to the butler who seemed to be observing the other servants as he went to him as the man took notice of his approach.

"I'm here for the commission for moving some things." Armaros said as he showed the pamplet to the man.

"Ah. So you are the one who took the commission. I must say, I didn't expect a young man to take the commission. Are you sure that you will be able to lift what we want?" The butler asked him as he scrutinized the boy.

"I'm fairly strong due to what I do. I am confident that I will be able to do so." Armaros said to the man with his usual polite tone.

"Then follow me, I shall tell you what you have to do." The butler said to him as he nodded.

'Alright, let's just get this over with.' Armaros thought to himself as he followed.

Though he then discovered the there was a lot of things to move, and some things were delicate as well. He wondered why they put them in crates but he didn't question it and did the job. Thanks to the strength he has, he was able to lift and move the crates and other heavy things without the use of magic, and has only needed to use some from time to time to balance himself.

It took some time but he managed to complete the commission, after which he was given the payment and proof that he had completed the commission.

"Good work." The butler said to him with a nod.

"Thank you." Armaros said as he turned around and walked out of the place.

'That took longer than I thought. I didn't think there would be that many things to move.' Armaros thought to himself as he made his way towards the gate.

It was after noon and he wanted to get some food in him before he did another commision. He just hoped that it wouldn't be too problematic and time consuming as the one he had just done, especially since he had to be very careful with the fragile things.

"Oh, well aren't you interesting." A woman's voice halted him in his tracks as he blinked.

He had left the nobles district a minute ago before he heard the voice as he looked to his right and found an older woman wearing witch based clothing that was mainly light green themed as she looked at him with a smile.

'Probably best to not get involved.' Armaros thought to himself as he just walked forward.

"Ignoring me are you. Well that won't do." The woman said as she walked to him and grabbed his shoulder as he looked at her.

"What do you want? I want to eat so please, whatever you have to say, say it fast." Armaros said to the woman as he looked at her.

"Oh impatient. Well, I suppose I can say I am interested in you because of how unique you are." The woman said to him with a smile.

"What are you talking about?" Armaros asked with a frown.

"I'm just saying. You're a person who's Fate is unsteady." The woman said with a smile.

"My fate is unsteady?" Armaros asked confused at her words.

"Yes. Every person in the world has a fate ordained by the Gods, though this is not something that everyone knows of course." The woman said with a smile as he felt a bit of a danger from her.

"What are you trying to say about my fate?" Armaros asked her as he looked at her, now more guarded.

"I'm saying that while you possess a fate in this world, it is almost as if it is rejecting your existence, as if you are someone that the Fate of this world doesn't want. And I'm quite curious about that." The woman said to him as his left hand twitched at that.

"I have no idea what you're talking. I'm not a magic user nor someone who studies it." Armaros said to the woman as he gave her a light glare.

"I suppose it is something that will be hard to understand for someone hearing this for the first time. No matter, just know that the Fate of this world does not take your presence kindly, as it is evident by the fact that you only have above average mana despite being from that clan." The woman said to him as his eyes widened at that.

"How did you... Who in the world are you?" Armaros asked her as he took a step back.

"I'm a witch who wants to understand this world. And I have come to the understanding that you are not welcome, and so Fate has made it so that you are weaker than you're supposed to be. I mean that you're someone who is both shackled and suppressed by Fate, so be sure to always be on guard. Who knows what might happen." The witch said to him with a playful smirk.

"Hey wait, you can't just..." Armaros tried to stop before he she vanished right in front of his eyes as he body disappeared in light.

His eyes widened in shock as he saw that before he looked around to see if she is nearby, but to no avail as he was confused.

'I am shackled and suppressed by the very Fate of this world?' Armaros thought to himself as he gripped the handle of his sword as her words echoed in his mind as he stood there, hunger forgotten at the face of such a bizarre experience.
