December 22, 1995, 4am, Granger Residence. Dobby woke Evan up.."Time to get up Evan sir." He said. "Thank you Dobby. Dobby, can you make sure I call my Sensei at 5:00am. Also, someone will be coming to pick me up at 6am. Hermione was thinking of coming with me, so perhaps you can wake her at 5am, so she has time to get ready. Breakfast to go, maybe?" Evan rattled off as he was getting dressed for early morning training. "Yes sir, Evan sir." Dobby responded.
Evan went through a few katas, using them to center himself, dropping into Mu-Shin. He expanded out his Haragei. He could feel the presence of Peter and Helen in their bedroom, Hermione in hers, Dobby and Winky. Surprisingly, he also felt Hedwig in a tree outside the house in the back. Good girl, he thought. He was now in a saddle stance, executing a series of punches and blocks in slow motion, breathing slowly, keeping an image of an alpine mountain scene in his mind. In the scene there was an alpine lake with a glassy smooth surface – a mirror to the sky.
Dawn just breaking. It was so peaceful. He began the kuji-kiri mantras again: Rin, Pyo, Toh. He stayed on Toh for a while, 'reconnecting to the universe' – so calming. Kai, Jin (awareness). Once again he felt Sensei in the web. Using Haragai he mentally called out to Sensei, not knowing if such a means of communication could be accomplished during kuji-kiri. He wasn't sure he heard an echo back, but called out again and said "I have an urgent mission today and tomorrow. I'll call you." He continued with the kuji-kiri: Zai (understanding nature in a meditative and harmonious way.), and finally Zen (absolute enlightenment). Evan continued his meditative breathing, staying still in a horse stance.
Feeling his chi move up from below his navel to his solar plexus when he inhaled, and descending when he exhaled. He felt the energy circulate in his body and mind. Evan felt his hands coming together just beneath his navel, as if he was cuddling a ball. As he inhaled his arms lifted toward his solar plexus. On the exhale he extended his arms (still 'cradling the ball') outward; then back in on the inhale and down toward his navel on the exhale.
As he repeated this set of movements he felt his chi moving with his arms. As he continued his meditation in this fashion, he wondered if his magic worked the same way. He'd explore that another time – he felt so at peace and in tune right now, he did not want to ruin it. He repeated the kuji-kiri a few more times until he felt Dobby approaching and knew it was time to call Sensei.
"Good morning Sensei." He began. "I felt you last night and again this morning, Evan. Were you practicing Kuji-kiri?" Sensei asked. "Yes, Sensei. I've added it to my Haragei and Mu-Shin meditation training." Evan responded. "You did something different this morning, didn't you Evan? I thought I heard you say you had an urgent mission?" "Yes Sensei. I wasn't sure that would work. I wasn't really sure I was doing Kuji-kiri correctly, but I thought that during the Jin mantra I might be able to send you my thoughts." Evan replied. "I've been called back to base for the next two days, and I won't be able to come into the dojo. I'll continue practicing, however." He said.
"It is good, Evan. Your grasp of the kuji-kiri is….well, unbelievable to tell you the truth. It typically takes years to master, yet for you it has only been one day." Sensei exclaimed. "Sensei, I wish I could tell you about all the weird things that happen to me, or the things I pick up quickly, however I am unable to at this time. I am hoping to be back by the 25th." Evan said. "The 25th, Evan is Christmas morning. We both should be spending that time with family. Let's meet up on the 26th." Sensei offered. "All right, Sensei. Thank you for the special training. Good bye, sir" Evan concluded, and then hung up. He then proceeded to shower and change into his Blue uniform.
At 05:45, Evan called the Commander. "Good morning, Sir. I am sorry to bother you, but Hermione overheard us talking last night. As part of her studies it appears she studied about what they called the last Voldemort War. She has some books that discussed what he did, some of the tactics used, and what responses worked and did not work. Hermione asked if she could be of some service to you and the General during the meeting this morning." Evan felt like he just laid everything on the table in one big splat. There was silence on the other side of the line. "Commander?...Are you still there Commander?" he asked hesitantly. "It might be worth hearing what she has to say, however she is a minor and needs to be escorted by one of her parents." The Commander replied. "Better get a move on, your Jeep will be there in 10 minutes, Midshipman" "Yes, Sir. Good bye Sir" Evan replied then hung up the phone.
