Although the man standing before them was an enemy, his casual smile and bold demeanor made it hard to dislike him. His tone was aggressive and slightly sarcastic, yet it carried a sense of straightforward confidence, making him seem more like a charismatic warrior than a villain.
However, Satoshi didn't care about his personality—enemy or not, that was all that mattered.
Pulling out his Pokédex, Satoshi scanned the two Pokémon standing beside the man, and the information made his stomach drop.
Pokédex Scan:
Raichu → Level 48 (Elite)
Electabuzz → Level 49 (Elite)
"Damn it..." Satoshi cursed internally. These weren't just ordinary strong Pokémon—they were borderline gym leader level. They were second-tier main Pokémon, meaning that while they weren't the absolute strongest in their Trainer's arsenal, they were still incredibly powerful.
Most experienced Trainers would train backup Pokémon alongside their main team, and gym leaders were no exception. This meant that if these were only secondary Pokémon, the real monsters were still waiting in reserve.
Satoshi calmed himself. Complaining wouldn't change the fact that the enemy was strong. He had expected a tough fight, but not an ambush with overwhelming force. If it had been anyone else, they'd already be defeated.
"An opponent who's powerful and ruthless is the most dangerous kind..." Satoshi muttered.
And to be fair, he himself was that kind of person.
"Vermilion City's gym leader..." Satoshi spoke in a serious tone, feigning surprise. "I didn't expect you to be a member of Team Rocket, Lt. Surge."
His mind raced as he analyzed the situation, thinking of a tactic to defeat the Elite-level Raichu and Electabuzz.
"Hahahaha!" Lt. Surge laughed loudly. "So you know who I am. That means you should also know what I'm best at—electricity!" His grin widened. "If you think you can pull any tricks against me, you'd better give up now!"
Sparks crackled around his Electabuzz and Raichu, their electric fields distorting the air with static energy.
This wasn't just natural electricity—it was precise control, developed through years of training together.
Satoshi clicked his tongue. This wasn't just a strong opponent—it was a monster who understood electricity at an instinctual level.
Silently, Satoshi pulled out a small recorder from his pocket.
If he couldn't defeat Lt. Surge outright, he'd at least cause trouble for him.
After all, exposing a gym leader as a Team Rocket executive would shake the entire Kanto Region. Even if Team Rocket was deeply embedded in the League, this revelation would force an investigation into multiple gym leaders.
And only three gym leaders in Kanto had clean records. The rest? If one fell, the domino effect would expose many more.
However—
The moment Satoshi pressed the record button, the recorder was instantly fried by a burst of static electricity.
"Shit..." Satoshi watched as the device sizzled, completely destroyed.
"Hahaha! What did I tell you?" Lt. Surge grinned, shaking his head. "Electricity is what I pride myself on the most. I can feel even the smallest charge in the air."
The muscular gym leader spread his arms wide, his presence commanding. Even through his military-style jacket, his bulging muscles were obvious.
His Raichu and Electabuzz stood proudly at his sides, their eyes filled with cruelty.
Lt. Surge wasn't just a high-ranking Rocket executive. He was also a powerful Trainer in his own right.
To reach this level, a Trainer had to develop a deep connection with their Pokémon—not just commanding them, but understanding their elemental abilities.
Normal Trainers relied on strategies and experience. But at Elite level, Trainers could sense and control elements alongside their Pokémon.
And once someone reached Elite-level mastery, it meant they could single-handedly destroy an entire city.
A Gym Leader? That was already powerful enough.
A Rocket Executive who's an Elite-level Trainer? That was terrifying.
"Wait a minute!" Ash suddenly shouted, his mind scrambling to process everything. " Lt. Surge is a gym leader! How the hell is he part of Team Rocket?!"
"Ash..." Satoshi sighed, rubbing his temples. "Team Rocket is a massive organization. It has three executives—and Lt. Surge is one of them."
"Wait, three executives?" Ash's eyes widened.
Satoshi nodded. "And all three of them are gym leaders."
"Which means..." Satoshi continued, his voice serious. "The man leading them must be even stronger—a person powerful enough to control multiple gym leaders and keep them in check."
Ash clenched his fists. He had battled Team Rocket grunts before, but this... this was on another level.
For the first time, he realized that his previous encounters with Team Rocket had been against low-level pawns. The real power was far beyond what he had imagined.
His expression hardened.
"Are you done talking?" Lt. Surge interrupted, stretching his muscular arms. "Good. Because I'm done waiting."
A dangerous glint flashed in his eyes.
"If you two have any last words, say them now," he grinned. "Because it's time for me to end this."
Electricity crackled violently around Raichu and Electabuzz, filling the air with a burning static charge.
Satoshi felt his body tense up.
Something wasn't right.
And then—Riolu's waveguide pulsed with an urgent warning.
"ASH—RUN!" Satoshi shouted suddenly, his instincts screaming at him.
Without hesitation, he turned on his heels and sprinted.
Ash didn't hesitate either—he trusted Satoshi's instincts. If Satoshi said run, he ran.
At that exact moment—
BZZZZT!!
A storm of Magnemites burst from hidden compartments around the room.
Satoshi glanced back mid-run—they had been seconds away from being completely surrounded.
"Shit! If we stayed a second longer, we'd have been trapped!"
But Lt. Surge wasn't about to let them escape so easily.
